Job description

Clinical Laboratory Scientist (2 Openings): For a not-for-profit health system serving portions of Philadelphia and its western suburbs (Main Line Health, Inc. - Radnor, PA): perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic and bacteriological testing in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease; work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide testing services to support patients and the community; follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing; read, interpret, record and maintain records of patient test results; assist other personnel with identifying and analyzing inconsistent and abnormal results; review accuracy and completeness of results; recognize unexpected or unreasonable results and/or testing delays, identify the cause and take appropriate action; assist supervisor with the review and editing of laboratory reports; review and analyze quality control data, identify QC/QA trends or problems, make judgements and take appropriate corrective action; follow protocols for acceptance/rejection of patient results; perform and report proficiency testing; may serve in a lead role in the absence of the supervisor for technical and operational duties; review Pending Logs, research and resolve missing specimen issues; operate laboratory instruments and perform routine maintenance; diagnose, troubleshoot and document all laboratory instrument and /or reagent problems; perform preventative and corrective maintenance/repairs and maintain records of actions; participate in the evaluation and development of new procedures, methods and instruments; assist in the orientation of new employees; participate in the training of technical staff; manipulate and operate simple and complex laboratory equipment including computers; may perform maintenance and limited tear down and replacement of parts of laboratory equipment, problem-solve equipment malfunctions; order supplies as necessary; assure that adequate department supply levels are maintained in a cost-effective manner; meet and adhere to all requirements of state and federal statutes; may perform related duties or special assignments as assigned.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor of Science or foreign equivalent degree in Clinical Laboratory, Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or a related field.
2. Clinical laboratory experience or internship in specimen processing test performance and reporting of test results, technical problem solving, including instrument calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting, interpretation and correlation of laboratory data with clinical information, documentation and regulatory compliance, collaboration with health providers for test interpretation and consultative support. Experience can be gained while pursuing degree.
3. Knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures and methodologies across hematology, chemistry, quality assurance and quality control principles, laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
4. Proficiency in operating and maintaining automated laboratory analyzers and related diagnostic equipment, using healthcare and laboratory information technologies for specimen racking, data entry, test validation and accurate reporting of results.
Work Location: Wynnewood, PA.
Hours: 40 per week
Night Shift- 9 pm - 7:30 am (40 hours per week/10 hours per shift). Every Wednesday to Saturday. Must work 2 holidays per year (1 summer, 1 winter)
Night Shift: 11 pm - 7:30 am (40 hours per week). 1 in 4 weekend Rotations. Must work 2 holidays per year (1 summer, 1 winter).
