Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Emergency Veterinarian Mentee to join our collaborative, team-focused hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We have a minimum of 2 Emergency Veterinarians and 8 support staff (2-3 receptionists, 2-3 treatment technicians and 3 dedicated ICU technicians) per shift.

We are seeking future veterinarians passionate about working in emergency medicine for our 6-month training and mentorship program. We are looking for individuals who are team oriented, driven, reflective, and reliable.

The Ethos ER Immerse Training Program

The ER Immerse Program will prepare veterinarians for a sustainable and satisfying career in emergency medicine. Built from the ground up to be different than traditional rotating internship programs, the ERi program has been developed around a curriculum of core competencies essential for an emergency veterinarian. In addition to providing training around clinical knowledge and skills, the program also includes a focus on client and team member communication, professional skills, and life/work integration.  

The ER Immerse program utilizes a hybrid training approach incorporating simulation-based didactic components into authentic training experiences with live patients. The curriculum is designed using an evidence-based strategy identifying competencies and skills deemed essential for a successful career as an emergency clinician.

Program Duration/Commitment

  • 6-month training program beginning June 2026
  • 1-year commitment as an ER clinician following training

Program Highlights

  • 5-day work week consisting of 4 clinical days, 1 didactic day, and 2 days off each week
  • Paired with a specific mentor and will mirror the same schedule for first 3 months
  • After month 3, you are allowed to transition to swings depending on comfort level, no overnights until approved by your mentor and hospital leadership
  • Surgical training with board-certified surgeons
  • Competency-based curriculum that includes asynchronous learning on Vetbloom and weekly live virtual didactic rounds
  • Regular live continuing education events led by specialists and experienced emergency doctors
