Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) is the province's leading provider of security, safety, training, and identification services. We exist to provide meaningful employment for veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, their families, and anyone else who wants to contribute to the security and well-being of Nova Scotians.


Commissionaires Nova Scotia is seeking a motivated and creative Marketing Assistant to join our People & Culture team within the Marketing & Communications function during this 12 week contract. This is an exciting opportunity for someone early in their communications or marketing career who is eager to gain hands-on experience across digital marketing, content creation, analytics, events, and community engagement.


In this role, you will support the execution of marketing and communications initiatives that enhance brand visibility, strengthen community partnerships, and promote Commissionaires Nova Scotia across the province. You will work as part of a collaborative team, contributing to meaningful campaigns, events, and projects that support both organizational goals and community impact.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


Marketing & Communications Support

  • Assist the Marketing & Communications team in executing departmental initiatives and achieving overall goals
  • Support the development of internal and external communications materials including newsletters, announcements, and promotional content
  • Maintain and update marketing contact lists, media directories, and distribution lists


Digital Marketing & Analytics

  • Track and monitor performance across social media, website, newsletters, and digital campaigns
  • Utilize tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and analytics platforms to support content development and optimization


Community Engagement & Events

  • Assist in developing and executing outreach plans to increase brand visibility across Nova Scotia
  • Coordinate participation in community events such as Pride, Canada Day celebrations, and local festivals
  • Represent Commissionaires at events, engaging with the public and promoting organizational services
  • Support event logistics including setup, teardown, and materials coordination


Partnership Development

  • Assist in building and maintaining relationships with community partners, vendors, and organizations
  • Support the development of a partner directory with a focus on diverse communities and veterans


Conference & Special Projects

  • Support planning and promotion for the Commissionaires Canada National Conference (Halifax 2026)
  • Assist with branded materials, communications, and on-site coordination
  • Capture content during events to support social media and digital storytelling


Content Creation & Creative Projects

  • Collaborate on capturing photos and videos for social media and marketing campaigns
  • Assist in creating social media content including captions, reels, and graphics
  • Develop simple, brand-aligned visuals using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Support and lead select creative initiatives as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS


Education & Experience

Formal education in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field is considered an asset, but not required.


We are particularly interested in individuals who bring creativity, curiosity, and a strong willingness to learn. Prior experience (including up to 1-3 years) in communications, marketing, social media, or event coordination is considered an asset, but not essential.


Candidates who have developed their skills through internships, academic projects, volunteer work, or self-directed learning are encouraged to apply.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with social media platforms and content creation
  • Basic knowledge of digital marketing tools and analytics platforms

WORKING CONDITIONS


This role may require occasional travel within Nova Scotia to support events and outreach initiatives.
The position involves light physical activity such as event setup and material handling.
Work will be primarily based out of our Bedford office, with some flexibility depending on project needs.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS


This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. As such, applicants must meet the program's eligibility criteria, including:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada


**Due to the travel requirements associated with attending events, a valid Nova Scotia Class 5 (Graduated) driver's license is required.
