Job description

Job Title: Graduate Student Employee, Biweekly - Graduate Assistant, Liturgical Musician - Song Assistant

Desired Length of Employment: Beginning Fall 2026 continuing to future semesters

Pay Rate: $13.00/hr

Job Description:

  • The Graduate Assistant: Liturgical Musician Song Assistant will support the Assistant Director of Chapel by organizing and conducting worship team rehearsals, providing musical accompaniment for Liturgical Worship Chapel, aiding in the planning of liturgies, creating weekly service order packets, including music scores and chord charts, communicating between the music team and tech booth, and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Liturgical Worship Chapel exists as worship services that are shaped by a historical understanding of Christian worship and that engage music from various church formats and cultures. 
    • These services include moments of contemplative prayer and worship. 
  • Students will have the opportunity to lead in various ways and will hear sermons from local ministers in the Baylor community and beyond. 
  • While each session will be informed by its context, the goal is that students will be formed by the routine of worship, gain an appreciation of liturgy, and experience a sense of belonging from communal prayer and worship. 
  • The summer graduate assistant will spend most of his or her hours working at the Bobo Spiritual Life Center under the supervision of the senior chapel coordinator.

Essential Functions:

  • Organize and conduct worship team rehearsals.
  • Aid in leading worship for Liturgical Worship Chapel.
  • Ensuring proper communication between musicians and the tech team.
  • Lead special worship services around campus (e.g., prayer vigils, Ash Wednesday).
  • Plan Liturgical Worship Chapel programming.
  • Compile complete service packets and orders of worship.
  • Must be present for two rehearsals and two services each week.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
     

Secondary Functions (may include):

  • Must have 5+ years of experience reading music.
  • Assist with professional recordings of songs commonly used in Liturgical Worship.
  • Help strengthen Chapel's connection to partners such as the School of Music and Truett Seminary.
     

Desired Skills (may include):

  • Proficiency in leading congregations vocally and instrumentally.
  • Administration and organization.
  • Aptitude in at least one musical instrument and music theory.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with audiovisual equipment (or ability to get help with such duties).
  • Occasionally, job functions may require working outside of normal business hours.
