What is Summer Google Coding?

Summer Google Coding often refers to Google Summer of Code (GSoC), an annual program sponsored by Google that offers students an opportunity to work on open-source software projects during their summer break. Participants are paired with mentoring organizations and gain real-world software development experience while earning a stipend. The program is open to students worldwide and helps build skills, mentorship relationships, and a portfolio of contributions to major open-source projects.

What types of projects do participants typically work on during a Summer Google Coding internship?

During a Summer Google Coding internship, participants often work on real-world projects that contribute to Google’s products or open-source initiatives. Projects can range from developing new features, optimizing existing code, to collaborating on large-scale infrastructure improvements. Interns are usually assigned a mentor and work within a team, gaining exposure to Google's engineering processes and agile workflows. This hands-on experience helps interns build practical skills and expand their professional network within the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Summer Google Coding intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Summer Google Coding Intern, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, often supported by coursework or experience in languages like Python, Java, or C++. Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, exposure to development tools, and participation in coding challenges or relevant technical certifications are common requirements. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help interns collaborate effectively and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment. These skills and qualities are crucial for contributing to real-world projects, growing as a developer, and succeeding in Google's dynamic workplace.

Recruiting for this role ends on 12/01/2026.

Work You'll Do

As a Software Engineering Analyst, you'll develop practical skills in agile methodologies, DevOps, cloud-native development, and modern software engineering best practices including AI-led engineering. We provide ongoing learning opportunities, mentorship, and access to a wide range of projects and industries-ensuring you'll always have new challenges to tackle and skills to master.

In this role, you'll apply your engineering mindset to real-world software product development across a diverse set of industries. You'll progress on a technical career path that enables you to grow into advanced engineering roles, with the flexibility to pivot across different areas of software development. You will work in an AI-native engineering practice where AI tools are a core part of the development workflow, not a side tool - used daily for implementation, debugging, refactoring, and review. Whether you aspire to be a hands-on technical architect, a cloud integration expert, a DevOps specialist, or another technical leader, Deloitte will support your ambitions. We promise you'll never run out of challenges to learn and grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within agile scrum teams to design, build, and deploy scalable software solutions
  • Develop cloud-native applications using platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, leveraging microservices and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Use AI tools as a core part of the daily development workflow - for implementation, debugging, refactoring, test generation, and code review - applying strong engineering judgment to prompt, steer, and validate AI-generated code in production systems.
  • Implement DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code, to streamline and automate software delivery
  • Apply test-driven development (TDD) and integrate security best practices (DevOps) throughout the software lifecycle
  • Use modern collaboration and version control tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub.
  • Continuously learn and adapt to new technologies, and frameworks, often in a hybrid work setting, as part of a dynamic, fast-paced environment

You will tackle complex problems, potentially in a hybrid setting, for our clients while collaborating with team members from diverse backgrounds and experiences to build full-stack cloud applications using the latest cloud technologies in a dynamic and agile environment.

  • Programming abilitywith at least one modern language like Java, C++, C#, Python as well as familiarity with object-oriented design
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using Claude Code (or a comparable agentic coding tool) as a core part of your daily engineering practice - not just familiarity, but experience with prompting, steering, and validating AI-generated code
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at time of employment
