Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: Transformational coach with the ability to assist and guide participating student athletes to achieve a high level of skill, discipline, sportsmanship and citizenship. To oversee and promote the specific sports program in accordance with Policies and athletic handbook.

Responsible management of equipment, dedication to maintaining outstanding communication with student athletes, staff, parents, and volunteers while adhering to school and league policies and serving as a positive role model for young athletes are essential elements of this position.


SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assistant Coaches, Student Athletes and Parent Volunteers


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Coordinates the organization the basketball program.

· Delegates assignments to assistant coach(es).

· Develops and organizes practice program.

· Acts as a liaison person in relating the district basketball program to the staff, administration, general public, and local news media.

· Plans and communicates with assistant coach(es) regarding practice schedule and competition strategies which ensure the health, physical well-being and sport specific success of student athletes.

· Implementing and leading off-season strength and conditioning program working in conjunction with Aquinas Strength Coaches.

· Coordinating and directing summer camps for youth through senior high basketball players.

· Maintains and inventories all equipment.

· Manages the orderly distribution and collection of uniforms and sport specific inventory.

· Models/mentors in instilling values of sportsmanship, citizenship and teamwork.

· Monitors proper supervision of student athletes at practices, competitions, locker rooms, and when competing away.

· Leads in selecting assistant and volunteer coaches.

· Maintains individual and team statistics and records.

· Plans and implements a seasonal awards recognition program through the Athletic office.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience:

· NYS Coaching Certification

· Valid NYS First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications

· Successful previous coaching experience

· Knowledge of the fundamentals and rules and regulations of basketball


Skills and Abilities:

· Strong leadership skills

· Ability to develop a competitive program that is committed to the creation of student athletes who demonstrate a commitment to academics, strong fundamental skills and sportsmanship.

· Ability to collaborate with administrators, teachers, coaches, sponsors, students, parents and members of the community to insure that the school stands out with pride for our community.
