Position Overview

Join us in the summer of 2026 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking efficient and dedicated salad prep staff who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. As part of our salad prep staff, you'll play a major role in preparing salad and deli items to provide meals to our various campus residents while fully immersing yourself in the unique environment that only a summer camp can offer.

What You Get To Do

  • Food Preparation: Wash, peel, chop, slice, dice, and portion vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients for salads.
  • Prepare dressings, sauces, and garnishes according to recipes or instructions.
  • Assemble salads and cold dishes in an attractive and consistent manner.
  • Ingredient Management: Inspect ingredients for freshness and quality before use.
  • Properly store ingredients in labeled containers to maintain freshness.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or expired items to supervisors.
  • Food Safety and Hygiene: Adhere to food safety guidelines, including proper storage, handling, and preparation.
  • Keep workstations, utensils, and equipment clean and sanitized.
  • Dispose of waste and expired items following established protocols.
  • Quality Control: Follow recipes and portion control guidelines to ensure consistency.
  • Ensure salads and cold dishes are presented neatly and served at the correct temperature.
  • Handle special requests or dietary modifications as needed.
  • Team Collaboration: Communicate with kitchen staff about ingredient needs and replenishments.
  • Support other kitchen team members during peak times or busy shifts.
  • Assist with additional prep work or cleaning tasks as directed.
  • Workstation Maintenance: Set up and stock the salad station with necessary supplies before service.
  • Break down and clean the salad station after service.
  • Ensure tools and equipment (e.g., knives, peelers, cutting boards) are in good condition.

This is a seasonal position located in Interlochen, Michigan. Housing is not included for this position, and employees are responsible for arranging their own accommodations.


What You Need

  • Availability 6/17/2026 - 8/23/2026
  • Previous related experience working in food service is desired.
  • Able to work in an outdoor environment for an extended period.
  • Minimum of 2 years working in kitchen facilities
  • Experience in reading and following recipes
  • Experience in working with a slicer, and knives
  • Must be able to work on your feet for extended periods of time, sometimes 4 hours or more
  • Must be able to function under hot and humid conditions
