THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking hardworking college students for employment during the summer months for the 2026 Summer Employment Program! If you enjoy working in an active, fast-paced environment and want to gain experience in public service, we want to talk to you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

You will assist in seasonal maintenance work, crash system input and analysis, and maintenance and custodial services at roadside rest facilities. Many students also perform laboring and flagging duties in maintenance organizations and at highway worksites.
PennDOT provides opportunities in various areas of PennDOT operations. Opportunities associated with this posting will be headquartered throughout PennDOT's County Maintenance Offices. Opportunities are based on operational needs, so there may not be open positions for each job title in every county. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:
  • Must be a Pennsylvania resident or currently enrolled FULL-TIME or PART-TIME in a two-year degree, bachelors' degree, or advance program at a Pennsylvania college or university.
  • Must be in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Additional Requirements:
  • Upon verification of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License without incident, some positions may be authorized to operate department vehicles as part of this job.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
