Job Summary:

In this role, you will be under general supervision of the Senior Surveillance Manager and be part of a team that is crucial in protecting Canterbury Park’s assets. You will prevent and detect theft, card cheats, and other illegal activities by guests / team members. Responsible to supporting the Companies mission, vision, and values by providing fun and games like no place else, and adheres to the Canterbury Way by focusing on our core values.

Starting wage: $20 per hour, with the potential for a higher rate based on experience and qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high degree of hospitality, as well as a positive and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Creates high levels of morale, fosters teamwork, inspires collaboration, and provides suggestions for growth to management.
  • Assist with investigations as instructed by the Senior Manager of Surveillance and / or the Director of Risk Management and Compliance.
  • Actively monitor, observe, record, review, and report daily casino activity by utilizing necessary surveillance cameras, equipment, and software to identify, record, document, and report any procedure violations, suspicious behavior, and illegal activity, particularly on the gaming floor.
  • Report suspicious behavior / activity, security and safety risks, illegal activity, improprieties, and violations to the Senior Surveillance Manager.
  • Work closely with other Canterbury Park departments to solve issues.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with all Canterbury Park, Title 31 the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Act in accordance with Surveillance Department personnel policies, operating procedures, CPE Team Member Handbook, and CPE Code of Conduct.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED and one (1) year of casino Surveillance and / or table games experience OR any equivalent combination of education and / or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Excellent learning aptitude is required as the candidate is required to satisfactorily complete training in Surveillance operations, equipment, and casino games, including but not limited to:
  • Blackjack, EZ-Baccarat, Carnival Table Games and Poker.
  • Ability to learn, comprehend, and maintain fundamental knowledge of the Surveillance Department, Canterbury Park Operations, and Title 31 compliance (BSA).
  • Experience with computers, including but not limited to:
  • Microsoft Office, Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • Must possess excellent observational skills, attention to detail, and attention span.
  • Must be able to pass Canterbury Park’s pre-employment screening which includes a criminal background check, and verification of work history.
  • Must be able to attain an MRC license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Surveillance equipment and software, such as audio and video equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic math skills.

Working Condition and Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting for long periods of time, performing eye to hand coordination, using hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. You may also spend long periods of time reviewing live or recorded camera coverages.
  • This position may require working nights, weekends, and holidays. Hours are determined by a 24-hour schedule and are subject to change with minimal notice.
