Job Summary/Basic Function
Central State University, an NCAA Division II institution, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to serve as the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach / Compliance. This role is vital to the success of the men's basketball program, with key responsibilities spanning recruitment, academic support, game and practice planning, and ensuring NCAA compliance. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Head Men's Basketball Coach and closely with the compliance office to ensure adherence to all institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruiting
• Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
• Build strong relationships with high school and junior college coaches and prospective student-athletes.
• Coordinate and manage official and unofficial campus visits.
• Maintain accurate and detailed recruiting records in compliance with NCAA standards. Compliance / Spry Coordination
• Assist in monitoring team activities to ensure full compliance with NCAA rules and university policies by keeping spry up to date.
• Serve as a liaison with the compliance office to support documentation, reporting, and education related to eligibility, recruiting, and student-athlete welfare.
• Stay current with all changes to NCAA rules and ensure program operations reflect compliance best practices.
Academic Monitoring
• Track academic performance of student-athletes and coordinate with academic support staff.
• Encourage and mentor student-athletes to maintain academic eligibility and pursue academic excellence.
Practice & Game Preparation
• Contribute to the development of practice schedules and in-game strategies.
• Participate in on-court instruction and individual skill development.
• Assist in scouting opponents and analyzing game film.
Summer Camps
• Plan, organize, and lead summer basketball camps.
• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and compliant camp environment in accordance with university guidelines.
Technology & Performance Analysis
• Utilize platforms such as Sportscode, Hudl, Synergy, and Spry for film review, scouting, and performance metrics.
• Maintain video archives and assist in statistical analysis.
Marketing & Social Media
• Design and distribute promotional and recruiting materials using tools like Canva.
• Support the program's branding and social media presence in coordination with the athletics communications team.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Previous coaching and/or playing experience at the collegiate level.
• Proficiency with Sportscode, Hudl, Synergy, Spry, Canva, and similar tools.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to the academic and athletic development of student-athletes in a diverse educational environment.
