JOB TITLE: Newcomer Summer School Teacher (25-26)
REPORTS TO: Summer School Principal
TIMEFRAME: June 1 - July 2, 2026
POSITION SUMMARY: This is a role to support Newcomer students. The ideal candidate is bilingual. This position will be part of summer programming which runs from June 1 - July 2, 2026. There will be required training in April and May. The rate of pay for this position is $35 an hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Planning
  • Plan instruction consistent with the district-approved ELD curriculum for assigned subject area(s)/grade level(s)
  • Use formal and informal methods to assess the abilities and needs of students.
  • Plan effective use of class time.
  • Work with staff members to increase instructional strategies for ELD students
  • Experience and background in instruction and planning for ELD

Instructional Interaction (Teaching)
  • Apply principles of teaching/learning to enhance student achievement.
  • Utilize teaching methods that are appropriate for the objectives and learners.
  • Modify instruction to meet student needs.
  • Communicate effectively with learners.
  • Provide for and maintain student involvement during instruction.
  • Work with small group

Evaluation of Instruction
  • Use the evaluation of student outcomes to measure the effectiveness of instruction.
  • Communicate effectively student progress to student and parent/guardian

Instructional Management

  • Maintain necessary student records.
  • Assist in planning for appropriate use of volunteers/aides as assigned

Learning Environment
  • Establish clear expectations for appropriate behavior.
