Art & Science Summer Day Camp Counselor

Lead Creativity and Curiosity at the YMCA—Shape the Next Generation of Problem-Solvers! The YMCA is hiring Art & Science Summer Day Camp Counselors for Summer 2026!

The Art & Science Summer Day Camp Counselor provides leadership and planning of specialty STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) programs for different youth between the ages of 6-13 with hands-on active learning to promote critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and communication.

Pay starts at $17.90 per hour, Monday-Friday schedule

Location: Goethe Elementary School (2236 N Rockwell St., Chicago, IL 60647)

Minimum and Required Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalency; completion of higher education coursework or degrees strongly preferred, especially within the science, technology, engineering, art, or math fields
  • Must have prior experience working with youth; previous experience in a camp setting strongly preferred
  • Able to carry 50+ lbs
  • Previous experience facilitating art or science youth programs
  • Passion for working with diverse youth and ability to provide a high-quality of instruction using age-appropriate practices.

  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children

  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
