Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct Counseling Services and Case Management
Provide individual and group counseling services to assist students with personal, academic, career, and crisis issues. Conduct crisis counseling to students in distress. Support faculty with mental health questions. Develop and implement caseloads for at-risk students, including those on academic probation, suspension, or early alert status, providing supportive counseling and behavior intervention as needed. Respond to crisis situations and college-critical incidents by conducting crisis/triage assessments, referrals, and classroom or group debriefing as appropriate. Provide online counseling services via email, phone, and other technology to support face to face, and distance education students. Maintain confidential student records in compliance with FERPA and institutional standards. Provide appropriate community resources and follow-up support as needed. Work collaboratively with faculty to assist students experiencing academic or personal challenges. May serve on the College Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment Team.
ADA/504 Compliance and Accommodations
Review medical documentation and determine appropriate academic and programmatic accommodations for students with disabilities. Ensure accommodation is applied consistently across campus and comply with legal requirements. In consultation with legal counsel and the Office of EEO and Title IX, make alterations to accommodation protocols and individual plans as legal decisions and regulatory requirements dictate. Educate and assist faculty and staff with ADA and Section 504 regulations, including their legal responsibilities and obligations to provide equal educational access. Maintain current information regarding federal and state disability laws, regulations, and best practices. Ensure appropriate processes are in place to provide prompt and unbiased resolution of student complaints and inquiries regarding discrimination based on disability. Develop and maintain written materials and informational resources to disseminate information about ADA requirements and the institution's disability policies.
Title IX and Supportive Services Coordination
Assist the Title IX Coordinator by providing subject-matter expertise on Title IX, VAWA, and related federal and state law requirements and compliance. Serve as a primary resource for campus student accessibility and working collaboratively with the Title IX Coordinator to identify, facilitate, and implement appropriate student support services for students affected by sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. Review and support the creation, implementation, and enhancement of services, programs, training, policies, and procedures to support affected students and ensure federal compliance. Coordinate with the Office of EEO and Title IX on student complaints alleging discrimination and non-compliance under applicable federal and state laws. Inform faculty regarding student academic accommodations, legal responsibilities, and instructional modifications necessary to ensure equal educational access.
Awareness, Training, and Departmental Leadership
Provide campus and college-wide awareness and training regarding the rights and responsibilities of students with disabilities and those in need of supportive services due to sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking, parenting students as well as available program resources. Provide accessibility awareness training to faculty, staff, and administrators regarding disability rights, Title IX requirements, and institutional policies. Facilitate partnerships with community providers and coordinate participation in relevant events and initiatives. Ensure Counseling Department compliance and coordination of services with regard to early alert systems, Maxient, Title IX, VAWA, and related federal and state laws. Maintain a working knowledge of the Office of Civil Rights grievance procedures and students' legal rights regarding disability discrimination. Collaborate with students, families, faculty, staff, mental and medical health providers, and social workers to support comprehensive student wellbeing.
Additional Duties:
Perform other duties, tasks, and assignments as required by supervisory staff to support the Counseling Department and Student Affairs division.
Ability to work in an office environment for extended periods, use a computer and associated equipment, conduct face-to-face and virtual counseling sessions, and attend meetings and training sessions as needed
40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Mandatory summer hours, some evening hours and Saturdays.
Required Education: Master's degree required with a concentration in Counseling,
Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Rehabilitative
Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy
Required Experience:
Experience working with student conduct, financial aid compliance, admissions processing, registrar operations, fraud review, internal investigations, or institutional compliance.
• Knowledge of FERPA, Title IV regulations, student identity verification requirements, and higher education compliance expectations.
• Experience using Banner or a comparable student information system.
• Experience case management model
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: N/A
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Independently licensed in the State of Louisiana - i.e. Licensed
Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family
Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or
Licensed Psychologist) required
Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) credentials a plus
Preferred Education: Doctorate's degree in Counseling Studies, Social Work or equivalent.
Preferred Experience: 2 years of experience in a higher education counseling setting or counseling adult populations
2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, administering and creating programs to accommodate individuals with disabilities, and providing Title IX-related supportive services
3 years of mental health counseling experience
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, HIPAA, FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, and applicable federal and state laws
Knowledge of state licensure board requirements and regulations
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Proficiency with student information systems and counseling documentation software
Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
