What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 14-year-old working a summer job, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 14-year-old in a summer job, you generally need a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and any required work permits or parental consent depending on local labor laws. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, basic computer skills, or tools relevant to the job may be helpful. Strong communication, punctuality, and a positive attitude are important soft skills that help young workers succeed. Employers are mindful of legal regulations limiting work hours and types of duties for this age group, so tasks are generally straightforward and safe.
