The position focuses heavily on quality control, construction management, and rigorous reporting for electrical distribution and power delivery projects, with strong potential for continued work on future utility and data center substation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate subcontractor crews in the construction of a high‑voltage substation supporting a data center project.
  • Drive subcontractor performance to ensure all work meets safety, quality, schedule, and contract requirements.
  • Oversee overall production and quality of the job, including the work performed by assigned crews.
  • Implement and enforce substation quality control processes and procedures throughout all phases of construction.
  • Review and interpret construction documents for electrical distribution, power delivery, and substation construction activities.
  • Monitor daily field activities to confirm compliance with design specifications, standards, and project requirements.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate reports and documentation as required for quality control and project tracking.
  • Ensure all reporting requirements are met, including standardized reporting and construction progress updates.
  • Coordinate closely with project team members and stakeholders to communicate project status, issues, and risks.
  • Conduct and participate in construction meetings to address safety, quality, schedule, and change management topics.
  • Support change management and risk management processes related to construction activities.
  • Promote and reinforce safety practices on site, ensuring subcontractors follow established safety procedures.
  • Assist in managing construction schedules and helping to maintain progress in line with project milestones.
  • Support commissioning activities by ensuring construction work is completed in accordance with quality and technical standards.
  • Collaborate with teams working on distribution and substation/transmission line projects, particularly within utility footprints such as Entergy.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in substation quality control, with direct responsibility for overseeing substation construction activities.
  • Background in electrical distribution and power delivery construction projects.
  • Construction management experience in distribution and substation environments.
  • Hands-on experience with substation construction, including coordination of subcontractor crews.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC practices in utility and substation projects.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and working from construction documents and technical drawings.
  • Solid computer skills for documentation, reporting, and standardized project updates.
  • Strong reporting skills, including the ability to produce accurate, timely, and detailed reports.
  • Experience managing safety, quality, reporting, contract compliance, and schedule requirements on construction projects.
  • Ability to lead field crews, drive performance, and maintain high standards of workmanship.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with project teams, stakeholders, and subcontractors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on utility projects, particularly within Entergy’s service territory, is highly valued.
  • Experience in distribution construction management with Entergy or similar utilities is a strong plus.
  • Experience with data center substation projects is beneficial.
  • Exposure to transmission and substation/t-line work is advantageous.
  • Project management experience in construction or electrical infrastructure projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with safety programs and practices in utility and substation construction environments.
  • Ability to support change management and risk management processes for construction projects.
  • Comfort working on long‑term, multi‑year projects with evolving scopes and multiple phases.

Work Environment

This position is field-based on a large substation construction project that supports a data center on the South and East Coast. You will work primarily outdoors at an active construction site, pushing and coordinating the work of subcontractor crews. The project is expected to run for multiple years, with this particular phase slated for at least a year and additional projects anticipated. The typical schedule consists of 10-hour workdays, five days per week (5x10s), with a base workweek of 50 hours and the expectation that total weekly hours may exceed 50. Standard per diem is provided, including seven days of per diem coverage while working 5x10s. The role involves consistent overtime, and time-and-a-half is paid beyond the base 50-hour workweek. The organization maintains a growing footprint with major utilities, offering strong prospects for future project assignments and long-term continuity of work. Holidays and paid time off are available and are billed back to the customer according to established guidelines.
