Job description

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Power Cable Technician to join our Power Operations Organization. Power Operation Organization delivers electrical energy to customers in the safest, most reliable and economical manner through a competent workforce committed to excellence and customer satisfaction. Your primary role is to perform underground power cable installations and repairs including, fault location, cable location, testing, maintenance, and commissioning for power cables rated 2.4KV-115KV in the field. You will also provide directions to junior underground power cable unit personnel.


Key Responsibilities:

As the successful candidate, you will be required to perform the following:

  • Supervise and perform high potential cable testing to 230 KV, perform megger tests to determine faulted phases and assist phasing of energized conductors to 35 KV.
  • Install, repair and maintain all HV transmission/distribution cables (solid dielectric, PILCA, LPOF, submarine) and conducts required testing to meet standards.
  • Locate cable or equipment faults and operating irregularities by making the necessary diagnostical tests, measurements, analysis and determine nature of repairs or modifications to be made, and replacement parts required.
  • Track discrepancies, maintain a technical library, and continuously audit equipmentโ€”recording cable routes, IDs, specs, conditions, test results, past failures and needed fixes.
  • Acquire clearances, perform switching, receive work permits and restore equipment to service; when such activities are required to perform work in a timely manner.
  • Supervise and perform preventive maintenance on high voltage cable and equipment terminations for substation switchgear, transformers, and ancillary electrical equipment.
  • Perform splices, terminations, taps, potheads, transitions, and elbows from detailed construction drawings and manufacturer's instructions.
  • Locate cable faults by tracing and marking routes, testing both ends, identifying splices/disturbances, using thumping and highโ€‘voltage burnโ€‘set to clear highโ€‘resistance faults, pinpointing the exact fault, repairing it, checking oil pressure, sealing LPOF leaks and refilling oil.
  • Train subordinate technicians in diagnostics, troubleshooting, test, repair, and maintenance procedures /methods.
  • Use various testing equipment like Insulation resistance, and Partial discharge, Very Low Frequency, Tan delta power factor, Time Domain Reflector, Hi Protentional AC/DC.
  • Install and maintain high voltage cables (e.g., solid dielectric, paper insulated lead covered (PILCA) cables, low pressure oil filled (LPOF) cables, and submarine cables and testing of high-pressure oil filled (HPOF) cables) and performs splicing, terminations, and testing.
  • Supervise cable excavation, ensure de-energization and safety grounding, and oversees cable laying for high and medium voltage cables.
  • Performs commissioning tests on new cable.


Minimum Requirements:

  • You will hold a Diploma/industrial degree in electrical field. B.s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • You will have 12 years of experience including at least 10 years in power system construction, commissioning, maintenance and operation with emphasis on transmission and distribution.
  • Certifications such as Basic Life Support/FA, Fire Protection, Work Permit Receiver, cable splicing & potential test are preferred
  • You will have a thorough knowledge of equipment and underground cable safety requirements and U.S. & Saudi Electrical Codes.
  • You will also be able to understand work orders, work permits, vendorsโ€™ manuals, and schematic diagrams and to communicate with fellow workers on technical aspects of the job.
  • You will have good knowledge of Safety Management System
  • You will have excellent communication skills in English
