The Opportunity with McKinstry
We are adding a Senior Project Manager - Industrial to our New Construction team in Seattle, WA. We are looking for someone who brings proven experience delivering complex, highly regulated projects in power generation, electrical transmission or nuclear facility construction. You will drive the full lifecycle of industrial construction projects from contract award through final commissioning and closeout while being responsible for leading a team of Project Engineers and maintaining accountability for schedule, cost, safety and quality.
Project Management
- Leads projects from initiation to closeout while maintaining control of scope, schedule, budget and quality through all phases including those subject to nuclear QA, utility or federal regulatory oversight.
- Develops and maintains detailed project execution plans, master schedules (CPM-based) and scopes of work aligned with contract documents, technical specifications and regulatory requirements (ie: NRC, NERC, FERC, DOE or equivalent).
- Conducts and leads pre-construction planning sessions with field foremen, superintendents and the Business Manager.
- Manages and coordinates procurement of subcontracts and purchase orders including supplier requirements, material traceability and dedication processes applicable to nuclear or safety-related scopes.
- Oversees scheduling and resource coordination for crews, subcontractors and vendors to maintain critical path milestones on projects.
- Oversees submittal review logs and distribution including tracking of safety-related and quality material and equipment approvals.
- Ensures safety compliance by upholding and communication of McKinstry safety standards with subcontractors and all on-site personnel.
Project Controls
- Assumes financial responsibility for projects including cost tracking, forecasting and reporting.
- Prepares and manages monthly project cost reviews, cost-to-complete forecasts and variance analyses.
- Monitors and controls project financial performance, manages change control in accordance with contract requirements.
- Reviews subcontractor billing while facilitating timely invoice processing and payment.
- Draft and oversee subcontracts and purchase agreements.
- Maintains complete documentation of change events, RFIs, field directives and nonconformance reports (NCR) in accordance with quality plan requirements.
- Generates preliminary assessments, technical solutions, fee proposals,presentations, studies and general support.
- Maintains positive working relationships with building owners, contractors,consultants, vendors and partners.
- Delivers accurate and timely data to support project forecasts.
Communication
- Serve as the primary client-facing point of contact through the project lifecycle.
- Documents and communicates project decisions, meeting minutes and key outcomes to all stakeholders while maintaining formal documentation.
- Facilitate communication internally between project team and other departments.
- Prepares and delivers project status presentations to owners, executives, regulators and project partners.
- Supports the RFP process including scope development, fee proposals and technical narratives for industrial construction opportunities.
Team Management
- Recruits, coaches, and mentors project team members which may include Project Engineers, Coordinators and Field Supervision staff.
- Develop project staffing plans covering direct labor, foreman and subcontractor resources.
- Forecasts project management labor requirements and adjusts resource deployment as projects evolve.
- Act as steward of McKinstry culture; models and reinforces company value, safety culture and quality expectations across the project team.
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience.
- 8+ years of total project management experience in industrial or heavy construction.
- 5+ years of direct project management experience on power infrastructure or nuclear construction projects.
- Prior experience with a major Mechanical/Electrical Subcontractor or nuclear construction firm on projects exceeding $5M in value.
- Knowledge of construction management, commercial building process, financialacumen.
- Proficiency in CPM scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 and/or SureTrak required.
- Knowledge of construction management, commercial building process, financialacumen.
- RCDD, CPM professional designation is highly preferred.
- Basic estimating skills preferred.
- Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, SharePoint) experience preferred.

The pay range for this position is $105,030 - $185,500 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
