Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the direction of the Manager, Administrative Director and Medical Director, the medical technologist performs clinical testing in one or more of the following areas: blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology and manual tests. The Technologist obtains or receives specimens, performs laboratory tests according to written procedures, understands methods and principles, performs and evaluates quality control on a daily basis and informs the Administrative Director or Manager of issues. The technologist performs preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation, interprets results as to their accuracy, acceptability and critical limits and organizes work to meet established deadlines and record all data obtained. The technologist is also responsible for instruction of MT and TLT students. Works actively and cooperative with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care.

What qualifications you will need:

This position is located in the Aliante Lab department

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university and successful score on a national examination for certification approved by the State Board OR
  • Completion of three years of academic study with a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college or university in a curriculum involving biological or physical science and at least 12 months training at a school of medical technology approved by a national accrediting agency and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State Board OR
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences at an accredited college or university
  • At least one year of additional full time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty in which he/she performs tests and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State Board.
  • Current State license or provisional license per State regulations as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist General Supervisor license is required if working alone.
  • Two (2) years' experience as a medical technologist in a large clinical laboratory.
  • Generalist experience in all areas of the laboratory is preferred.
