Job Title: Meadows Social Media Student Assistant 

Department: The Meadows Marketing and Communications Department 

Location: On-campus/Hybrid

Work Schedule: 10-15 hours per week 

Pay: $15/hr 

Start Date: Fall 2026


Role Description:  

The SMU Meadows Marketing and Communications Department is searching for a creative Social Media Student Assistant to help produce content for the Meadows social media platforms. Working in collaboration with the Meadows Content Strategist, the student assistant will be responsible for brainstorming social media ideas, filming and editing videos, writing captions, and scheduling posts using Buffer. The student will contribute content to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and X. Please note: This position is exclusively open to current SMU undergraduate students pursuing a Meadows major.


Roles and Responsibilities: 

Brainstorming & Strategy 

  • Collaborate with the Meadows Content Strategist and other student workers to develop engaging and creative social media content. 
  • Brainstorm and pitch new ideas for reaching prospective students, current students, alumni, and the broader SMU Meadows community on social media and recurring content series. 
  • Research and stay up-to-date on social media trends to create relevant and engaging content. 


Content Production & Posting 

  • Film and edit short-form videos for platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. 
  • Write compelling captions that align with the SMU Meadows brand voice. 
  • Use the scheduling tool Buffer to submit posts for approval on all Meadows social platforms.
  • Ensure all content is optimized for each platform, using relevant hashtags and tagging relevant accounts.
  • Identify opportunities to engage with followers, alumni, and students through replies and reposts. 


Additional Support 

  • Attend campus events to capture live content and behind-the-scenes moments. 
  • Support other marketing initiatives and projects within the Meadows Marketing and Communications Department as assigned. 


Requirements: 

  • Current SMU undergraduate student pursuing a Meadows major (Advertising, Art, Art History, Corporate Communication & Public Affairs, Creative Computation, Dance, Film & Media Arts, Journalism, Fashion Media, Music, Theatre, or Musical Theatre) 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms 
  • Basic skills in photography, videography, and video editing
  • Excellent written and visual communication skills 
  • Strong ability to collaborate and also work independently 
  • Creativity and enthusiasm to learn 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience managing social media accounts and creating professional content for an organization
  • Experience working with content management tools, such as Buffer or Sprout Social 
  • Experience with Canva 
  • An interest in other aspects of marketing, such as graphic design, public relations, and/or podcasting
