Your responsibilities gradually expand to include teaching students according to predetermined lesson plans and performing research regarding teaching methods and curriculum. You must learn the methods necessary to teach and create lesson plans and assist the teacher who is supervising you. Other duties may include grading student assignments, maintaining student grades and records, hosting one-on-one sessions with students, and meeting with your supervising teacher and other school staff to receive performance critiques.

What is a student teacher internship?

A student teacher internship is a supervised teaching experience that is typically required for individuals pursuing a degree in education. During this internship, student teachers work in real classrooms under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers, applying their learning from coursework to practical teaching situations. The internship helps them develop classroom management skills, lesson planning abilities, and instructional techniques. It is an essential step for gaining hands-on experience and is often required for teacher certification.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a student teacher intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Student Teacher Intern, you need foundational knowledge of educational theory, classroom management, and subject matter expertise, typically gained through enrollment in a teacher preparation program. Familiarity with lesson planning software, learning management systems, and assessment tools is often expected. Strong communication, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from feedback help interns build positive relationships with students and mentors. These skills and qualities ensure effective teaching practice, professional growth, and a successful transition into a teaching career.

What are some common challenges student teacher interns face during their placements, and how can they effectively address them?

Student teacher interns often encounter challenges such as classroom management, adapting lesson plans in real time, and balancing feedback from mentor teachers with their own teaching style. Job description

Oakland FlexTech High School is seeking a Full Time Social Worker.
Are you an educational dreamer, believing all students will be inspired learners in the right environment? Are you looking to transform yourself, the students you will serve, as well as the broader educational landscape? Do you want to join a passionate and collaborative faculty who continuously strive to make a better school?
FlexTech High School was designed to be a new vision for educating the 21st Century teenager, one that puts wonder, creativity and initiative at the heart of the learning process and prepares students for today's unpredictable and rapidly-changing world. What started out as a challenge to design a school that would re-engage disenfranchised learners has grown into a mission to reinvent the education paradigm that simply is behind the times.
Oakland FlexTech High School is located in Farmington Hills, MI and serves the greater Metro-Detroit area. As a 9-12 high school, FlexTech offers flexible scheduling to accommodate learning outside the walls of the school through internships, college dual enrollment and various community projects. Students find themselves challenged and inspired by the progressive, competency-based and project-based learning model that is at the core of our instructional program.
Oakland FlexTech embraces the Small Schools Initiative, serving approximately 200 students who work closely with a teacher-advisor to monitor their progress and to tailor their school experience to meet their individual needs and interests.
Students come to Oakland FlexTech High School looking for a more relevant high school experience. They seek a small, personal environment where they feel supported and encouraged to pursue their interests. The school has an open campus that operates under a seat time waiver, so student schedules are markedly different from a typical high school and there is an emphasis on using technology to support our methodology.
Staff at Oakland FlexTech High School are part of a learning community participating in year-long professional development designed to support and develop teachers through a process of reflection and practice. Through a dynamic and supportive environment, all staff are encouraged to bring new ideas and participate in problem solving protocols.
