Job description

Job Summary
Working under the supervision of the Director of the Student Success Advising Center, the Advisor II will provide specialized support to current and prospective students including but not limited to transfer students, post-bac students, athletes and students in the honors program students in the honors program. The advisor II will proactively engage a caseload of assigned students to support a successful transition into Georgia Gwinnett College and future academic success.
Responsibilities
1 - 50%
Advising: Provide specialized advising support to student populations, including but not limited to student-athletes, transfer students, post-bac students, and students in the honors program.
Advise current and prospective students on course selection, degree programs, campus resources, and career options based on students¿ interests, goals, needs, and degree progress.
2 - 20%
Communication
Work with the SSAC leadership to manage the department's communication plan.
Use advising platforms to disseminate information according to the SSAC communication plan.
Respond to inquiries in the SSAC email.
3 - 25%
Campus Engagement
Make referrals to campus partners based on students¿ individual needs and interests and conducts timely follow up with students.
Participate in campus events including, but not limited to Grizzly Orientation, Grizzly Days, and Preview Days.
Collaborate with campus partners to facilitate student success workshops and events.
4 - 5%
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • 4 Year/Bachelor Degree in counseling, education or related field
  • At least two years of college academic advising experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or related field
  • Experience with BANNER
  • Experience advising at Georgia Gwinnett College
  • Experience utilizing Navigate functionality
  • Experience with specialized student populations

Proposed Salary
$42,100 - $50,500; Salary offer will be dependent on candidate's experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of trends, issues and best practices relevant to advising and ability to apply the knowledge to develop and improve advising practices and support student success
  • Knowledge and understanding of GGC academic programs and degree requirements, academic policies, procedures, and student success initiatives
  • Knowledge of and ability to use advising-related technology, including Degreeworks and BANNER
  • Skills in verbal and written communications
  • Skills in interpersonal interactions and relationship building
  • Skills in preparing and delivering presentations
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a globally rich community
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and records
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to maintain and utilize professional ethics
