The Graduate Assistant - Research will support the research, scholarly, community engagement, and grant development activities of the Center for Innovative Research, Collaboration, Leadership, and Community Engagement (CIRCLE) within the School of Public and Allied Health. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Graduate Assistant - Research will assist with interdisciplinary research projects, grant proposal development, data collection and analysis, community-engaged initiatives, student research programming, scientific writing, and dissemination of research findings.

The Graduate Assistant - Research will play an integral role in advancing the Center's mission to improve health, promote collaborative research, increase external funding, and develop the next generation of public health and allied health researchers.

Responsibilities:

Research Support

  • Assist with the design and implementation of research studies.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews.
  • Assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and protocol management.
  • Recruit research participants and coordinate study activities.
  • Assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection.
  • Clean, organize, and manage research datasets.
  • Conduct statistical analyses using software such as SPSS, SAS, R, STATA, or similar platforms.
  • Assist with qualitative data coding using NVivo or comparable software.

Grant Development

  • Support the preparation of grant proposals and supporting documents.
  • Conduct background research for grant applications.
  • Assist with proposal editing, formatting, and submission.
  • Maintain grant development timelines and supporting documentation.

Scholarly Activities

  • Assist with manuscript preparation for peer-reviewed journals
  • Prepare conference abstracts and presentations.
  • Assist with scientific posters and oral presentations.
  • Support dissemination of research findings through reports, newsletters, and publications.

Community Engagement

  • Assist in planning and implementing community-based research activities.
  • Coordinate meetings with community partners.
  • Support community outreach events and health education initiatives.

Student Research Programs

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
  • Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college.
  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

Required Qualifications:

  • Admission and enrollment in a graduate degree program at Prairie View A&M University.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in research and scholarship.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Graduate study in Public Health, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, Biological Sciences, Data Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.
