Job description

LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Oral Surgery Department

LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Oral Surgery Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 1 or 2 in our Baton Rouge location.

Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training required.

Job Specification

Job Duties and Other Information

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist dentist and dental students with chair side treatment of patients
  • Maintain and stock cabinet
  • Instruct and evaluate students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques
  • Chart patients according to LSUSD systems (Axium/WinOMS Computer knowledge)
  • Give follow-up home instructions as directed by the surgeon, resident, or student
  • Implement and maintain infection control in the work area.
  • Check inventory and order supplies when needed.
  • Implement and follow safety guidelines as set forth by LSUHSC School of Dentistry and OSHA.
  • Know dental and surgical terminology.
  • Know correct nomenclature of all dental instruments
  • Knowledgeable of computers.

The candidate applying should possess the following core competencies: communicating effectively, focusing on customers, following policies and procedures.

Appointment Type: Classified Appointment

Career Progression: This position is part of the career progression group may be filled as a Dental Assistant 1 or 2.

Work Schedule: MondayFriday; 7:00 AM4:00 PM

Compensation:

  • $15.05 per hour for Dental Assistant 2 title
  • $14.06 for Dental Assistant 1 title

Additional compensation:

  • $1.00 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.
  • $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification.
  • $1.50 for EDDA certification (Expanded Dental Duty Dental Assistant).
