Job Summary:
The Student Phlebotomist is training for collecting venous and capillary blood specimens from patients in a safe and accurate manner according to established lab policies and practices while enrolled in an accredited Phlebotomy training program and under the supervision of a certified Phlebotomist. Demonstrates H3W behaviors with a focus on exceptional patient experience and quality service and outcomes.
Program starts September 8th, 2026!
This is a 6-week program including classroom training, on the job training, and lab experience with the expectation to achieve a Phlebotomist certification.
After successful completion of program, continued employment as a Phlebotomist or alternate role with various hours and shifts.
Responsibilities :
  • Greet patients appropriately and explains procedure in an understandable/confidential manner, actively listens to patients' questions and concerns and responds appropriately under the direct supervision of a phlebotomist.
  • Collects specimen [phlebotomy] in a safe, skillful and accurate manner, under the supervision of a trained Phlebotomist using various phlebotomy techniques to address patient populations including geriatric and pediatric patients. Performs verification of patient demographics pre and post venipuncture to validate tubes are labeled correctly.
  • Ensures proper specimen handling to maintain specimen integrity. Performs delivery and receipt of specimen by pneumatic tube as required.
  • Stock and maintain inventory of phlebotomy carts and/or department inventory.
  • Performs the Student Phlebotomist role outside of classroom required training hours. Attends all required classroom training to achieve Phlebotomist certification.

Qualifications:
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • The Phlebotomist Student is required to enroll in a HHC sponsored accredited Phlebotomist Program - no cost to applicant.
  • Meets standardized academic and clinical expectations. Remains actively enrolled in the Phlebotomist program.
  • Must read, write and speak English.
