Job Description
The Part-Time Assistant Football Coach supports the Head Football Coach in all aspects of a NCAA Division I non-scholarship football program. Responsibilities include coaching and developing student-athletes, recruiting prospective student-athletes, supporting academic success initiatives, assisting with travel and program operations, and promoting a positive culture that reflects the mission, values, and standards of Stetson University and its Department of Athletics. The Assistant Coach serves as a mentor, educator, and role model, fostering the personal, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Provide instruction, supervision, and mentorship to student-athletes assigned to a designated position group.
- Plan, organize, and conduct position-specific practices, drills, meetings, and game preparation activities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of offensive, defensive, or special teams game plans, as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Evaluate student-athlete performance and provide constructive feedback to support athletic development.
- Promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of student-athletes through appropriate coaching practices.
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, conference, and University regulations.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with prospective student-athletes, families, coaches, and community stakeholders.
- Assist with recruiting visits, communications, evaluations, and related documentation.
- Encourage and support student-athletes in achieving academic success, progress toward degree completion, and eligibility requirements.
- Collaborate with Athletics Academic Services and Compliance personnel to monitor academic progress and maintain eligibility standards.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of NCAA, conference, and University rules and regulations and ensure full compliance in all aspects of the position.
- Report potential compliance concerns promptly and participate in required compliance education activities.
- Assist with team travel, scheduling, equipment management, video coordination, and other operational functions as assigned.
- Supervise assigned student workers, managers, and support personnel.
- Support fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement activities, and community outreach efforts as directed.
- Represent the University and Athletics Department in a professional manner at campus, community, and athletics-related events.
- Enforce University, department, and team policies and expectations regarding conduct, sportsmanship, and professionalism.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head Football Coach, Director of Athletics, or designee.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and NCAA Division I rules, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to coach, teach, and develop student-athletes in a competitive collegiate football environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to motivate, mentor, and positively influence student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other technology utilized in collegiate athletics operations and recruiting.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Knowledge of football strategy, player development, strength and conditioning principles, and practice planning.
- Commitment to supporting the academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging, and the ability to work effectively with a broad range of constituents.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of one (1) year of collegiate coaching experience or equivalent football coaching experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
- Experience recruiting, coaching, teaching, and developing student-athletes.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, supporters, and community members.
- Commitment to the academic mission and educational goals of Stetson University.
- Must possess current driver license and an insurable driving record through the University's insurance provider.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience coaching at the NCAA Division I level.
- Experience with recruiting operations, player evaluation, and video analysis systems.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and requires regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold temperatures, and precipitation. The position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, stoop, kneel, and reach; and participate in physically demanding athletic activities. Incumbent must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Duties require travel for recruiting, team competitions, and related activities, as well as the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and hours outside the University's normal operating schedule. The position requires sufficient visual, auditory, and physical abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the role.
Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025. Due to the recent federally mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increasedcost of sponsorship for new H-1B petitions at this time. International candidates are encouraged to apply but should be aware that eligibility for sponsorship will be evaluated in accordance with current U.S. immigration regulations and institutional policies.
This position is not benefit eligible. Stetson University offers non-benefit eligible employees the option to make elective contributions to their retirement through TIAA.
