We are seeking Telemetry RN Extern, also referred to as our Telemetry Nurse Intern, Tele Nurse Extern or Student Extern in our Telemetry department. The Tele Student Extern plays a supportive clinical role as a nursing student who works under supervision in our hospital’s telemetry unit to gain hands-on clinical experience, applying classroom knowledge to real patient care while developing essential nursing skills. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed but helps with your school schedule. 


** The Student Extern supports the patient care team by providing direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN, performing tasks aligned with their completed clinical training, initially working as a nursing assistant until cleared by the Supervisor to advance to their appropriate skill level.** 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): 

  • Assist registered nurses with basic patient care tasks including monitoring vital signs hygiene mobility and feeding while observing and reporting changes in patient conditions 
  • Practice clinical skills such as wound care medication administration under supervision and documentation while learning to use medical equipment and electronic health record systems 
  • Help prepare patients for procedures and tests and assist in maintaining a safe clean and organized patient environment 
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and healthcare team members to support patient care plans while communicating effectively with patients and families to provide comfort and information 
  • Participate in educational activities skills labs and unit rounds while receiving feedback and coaching to improve clinical competence and professional behavior 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
 
1. Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
2. Must be in good and academic standing.
3. Current Basic Life Support Certification.
4. Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
