Associate Dean โ€“ Student Services

Student Services Department

Malcolm X College

The Student Services Department serves as a network of student-centered support and resources, providing a nurturing, holistic, and inclusive environment where students have access to a wide range of support services, opportunities for campus engagement, and connections to resources for their academic and personal development.

Reporting to the Vice President โ€“ Student Affairs, the Associate Dean of Student Services assists in managing the collegeโ€™s Student Services Department, providing administrative direction and leadership for student-support operations within assigned areas. They develop and implement student engagement, retention, and success efforts; supervise staff and oversee the effective delivery of student services; and foster an empowering learning environment for students.

As an educational administrator, the Associate Dean works collaboratively with academic leadership to create a culture of student success, provides students with the knowledge, resources, and support needed to achieve their academic, career, and life goals, and contributes to the collegeโ€™s goals of access, retention, completion, and success.

Essential Duties

Administration

  • Assist the Dean in managing the Student Services Department and work with key staff to develop performance goals, implement programs, evaluate operational effectiveness, and enact continuous improvement.
  • Supervise staff accountable for overseeing assigned programs and functional areas such as Advising, Registration, Testing Services, New Student Orientation, Student Activities, Transfer Resource Center, ACCESS Center, Veterans Services, Wellness Center, Athletics Department, and other departments/programs identified by the college.
  • Assist in developing policies, procedures, and interventions that promote student success practices and integrate the functions of the Student Services Department in a manner responsive to student needs, campus life, and the community.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation, oversee the departmentโ€™s budget and fiscal resources, monitor expenditures, and approve purchase requisitions and related expenditures.
  • Participate in preparing grant proposals for project funding as required.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection of management and professional staff in coordination with Human Resources; enforce personnel policies and procedures.

Student Services Operations

  • Establish and implement processes, enforce policies, and oversee compliance in areas such as Title IX, student conduct, and the Supportive Intervention Team (SIT) committees.
  • Implement student-focused initiatives and special projects, organizing campus teams to effectively execute programs and provide student support services.
  • Assist in the administration of the collegeโ€™s judicial affairs as outlined by CCCโ€™s Academic and Student Policy Manual.
  • Provide support to key college administrators in implementing the collegeโ€™s Strategic Enrollment Plan.
  • Assist in implementing plans for student registration each semester, working with key staff to ensure efficient operations and a seamless registration process for students.
  • Prepare program assessment reports, division activity reports, and ensure the preparation and submission of federal and state compliance reports.
  • Serve on various college-level and district-level committees focused on initiatives to increase student access and success and/or campus priorities and goals.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Masterโ€™s degree from an accredited college or university in Student Services, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
  • Three years of administrative experience in student services administration, preferably at a community college.
  • Experience motivating, mentoring, coaching, and developing staff with sound supportive leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Experience with financial oversight of significant budgets and resources.
  • Evidence of participation in the development/implementation of programs or activities designed to support student enrollment, retention, and/or drive student success and engagement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, diversity and inclusion, service excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to handle all situations with solid clinical judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in oneโ€™s work.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Salary: $92,866 โ€“ $95,000 per year
