Position Specific Summary
The Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at the Milken Institute School of Pubic Health is seeking to hire temporal student position for fall 2026. The Student Assistant supports the instructor in the day-to-day operation of EXNS 3120, a service-learning class. The position requires the student to commute from the Foggy Bottom campus to daycare centers located in D.C. In addition, this role involves assisting with course logistics (i.e., visiting daycare centers, transporting educational material to daycare centers, coordinating storage of education material at centers, communicating with instructor and center directors), supporting students, and helping maintain/prepare course materials. The position is well-suited to a student with strong organizational skills, have knowledge of D.C. Metro system, is community oriented, and able to meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
โ€ข Assists in preparation of course materials
โ€ข Assist with taking attendance when students arrive at daycare center
โ€ข Be on site during the time students are engaged in experiential learning at daycares.
โ€ข Support in-class activities, such as distributing materials or facilitating small-group work
โ€ข Communicate regularly with the instructor regarding student concerns or course needs
โ€ข Uphold academic integrity standards and maintain confidentiality of student records

The student will assist in supporting courses, administrative academic functions, and student success in the relevant course or subject area. Tasks may include: Checking class attendance and participation, grading assignments, taking notes during class, supporting student success in the class, and preparation of course materials. Special projects or duties may be assigned related to specific office needs.
*Graduate students performing teaching functions or supporting courses with student interaction must be hired through the Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships.
