General Description
The Financial Aid Student Assistant position is assigned to assist the Financial Aid Office front counter staff and receptionist to help students or prospective students by receiving forms, distributing forms, and providing general information about the financial aid process.
The Financial Aid Student Assistant position is responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of individual student files, assisting with Financial Aid Office centralized filing system, assisting the Financial Aid Advisors with collection of data needed for reporting purposes and for data entry functions.

Minimum Education/Experience
Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours for the fall or spring term or 3 credit hours for the summer term.
OR
Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours for the fall or spring term or 3 credit hours for the summer term.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Positive human relations/customer service skills
Ability to complete tasks with attention to accuracy and detail
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in a written format

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, administration, staff, faculty, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Assist current and prospective students by receiving and accepting financial aid documents.
Provide general information about the financial aid process.
Assist in the development and maintenance of individual student files.
Assist with the centralized scanning and filing system of the Financial Aid Office.
Answer financial aid main telephone line to assist students with questions.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
