Job Summary
Purpose or Role of the Position.
The Student Support Services Assistant reports to the Director of the Academic Center for Tutoring (ACT) and the Director of the Center for Academic Coaching (CAC). The SSS Assistant collaborates with all ACT and CAC staff to ensure exceptional customer service is provided to students and other stakeholders while providing accurate and timely information via multiple channels of communication.
Responsibilities
- Providing quality customer service and maintaining professional relationships with constituents;
- Monitoring student traffic for advisors and tutors, particularly during peak advising periods;
- Communicating verbally and in writing to answer inquiries and provide information (i.e., monitoring CAC and ACT email and answering phones);
- Creating appointments, maintaining, collecting, and collating data gathered from the online scheduling system and SIS;
- Supporting the center in marketing, recruiting, training, monitoring student staff, and assessing services;
-Organizing and staffing internal and external events operating basic office equipment and software;
- All other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
To be considered for a Federal Work Study Student Assistant, the applicant must be a current Columbus State University student, taking at least six (6) credit hour courses per semester.

Position Classification :
Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions are grouped into three general levels based on job duties and required skills:
  • Entry-Level: Basic tasks with little to no prior experience required. Duties may include clerical work, customer service, or general office support.
  • Intermediate: Positions that require some prior experience or specific skills. Duties may include tutoring, lab assistance, or more independent administrative work.
  • Advanced: Roles that require specialized skills, training, or significant responsibility. Duties may include research assistance, technical support, or leadership roles.

Procedure for Determining Pay Rate :
Federal Work-Study (FWS) pay rates are based on the type of job, responsibilities, and skills required. Pay is set within the university's student wage guidelines and follows federal and state minimum wage laws.
Rates may vary by position and are determined in coordination with Financial Aid, based on available funding and the student's FWS award.
