What You Will Do: Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, the Student Connection & Achievement Manager provides leadership for the daily operations, programs, services, and initiatives of the Roberto Hernández Center. The position advances student success by fostering engagement, belonging, leadership development, and academic achievement among Latino/a/e students and other students served by the Center. The Student Connection & Achievement Manager oversees the implementation and assessment of programs and services that support the Center's mission, supervises professional and student staff, manages fiscal and operational resources, and develops collaborative partnerships across campus and within the community.
Major Responsibilities:
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, DEVELOPMENT, AND PROGRAMMING 25%
- Develop, implement, and assess programs, services, and initiatives that promote student engagement, belonging, persistence, retention, and academic success.
- Lead the planning and execution of signature cultural and heritage programs, welcome programs, educational workshops and leadership programs, and community-building initiatives that support the mission of the Roberto Hernández Center.
- Facilitate opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, cultural awareness, personal growth, and community connections.
- Advise and support student organizations and student leaders affiliated with the Center.
- Collaborate with campus partners to support Welcome programs, orientation engagement, enrollment, retention, persistence, and graduation initiatives.
- Assess participation, student learning outcomes, and program effectiveness to guide continuous improvement efforts.
LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION 25%
- Provide leadership for the day-to-day operations of the Roberto Hernández Center.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate professional staff, graduate assistants, student employees, and interns.
- Foster a collaborative, student-centered, and team-oriented work environment.
- Establish performance expectations and support professional development opportunities that enhance staff effectiveness and growth.
- Delegate responsibilities and monitor progress toward departmental goals and objectives.
- Support divisional initiatives and participate in committees, work groups, and special projects as assigned.
STRATEGIC PLANNING, ASSESSMENT, AND STUDENT SUCCESS OUTCOMES 20%
- Develop and maintain assessment practices that evaluate program effectiveness, student engagement, and student success outcomes, identifying equity gaps affecting Latino/a/e students.
- Monitor retention and persistence trends, and other relevant student success indicators.
- Utilize assessment data to inform decision-making and improve services.
- Develop action plans based on student success data.
- Stay informed of emerging trends, best practices, and issues affecting Latino/a/e students
- Recommend programmatic and operational improvements that support student success and align with divisional priorities.
ADMINISTRATIVE AND FISCAL MANAGEMENT 20%
- Manage the daily operations of the Roberto Hernández Center.
- Develop, administer, and monitor departmental budgets, including Segregated University Fee allocations, foundation accounts, grants, and other funding sources.
- Ensure responsible stewardship of financial resources and compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of university policies, procedures, and regulations relevant to departmental operations.
- Prepare budget projections, expenditure analyses, and financial reports as needed.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for supplemental funding and external partnerships that support departmental initiatives.
COLLABORATION, COMMUNITY, AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT 10%
- Develop and maintain relationships with local schools, community organizations, alumni, and families to strengthen pathways to enrollment, retention, and student success.
- Serve as the Roberto Hernández Center liaison to internal and external partners.
- Represent the Center at university and community events, meetings, and professional gatherings.

- Advises and enforces Institution policies related to services in Student Affairs
- May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees

The Roberto Hernandez Center (RHC) was founded in 1970 as the Spanish Speaking Outreach Institute with a mission to uplift and empower Latino/a students. Compensation:
Starting annual salary between $59,000 - $62,000 (Final offer will be determined by experience, education and qualifications at the time of hire). This position also offers an excellent benefit package, including health insurance, paid sick leave, personal, vacation and legal holiday time off as well as contribution towards the cost of several other employee benefits, including a pension.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Higher Education, Education, Student Affairs, Social Work, Ethnic Studies, Public Administration, Human Services, or a related field.
- Three or more years of professional experience in higher education, student affairs, multicultural affairs, student success, community engagement, or a related field.
- Experience supervising staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience leading a cultural center, student resource center, multicultural affairs office, or similar student-facing program or initiative.
- Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Experience using assessment and other quantitative and qualitative data to inform strategic planning, program improvement, and organizational decision-making.
- Professional experience managing departmental or operational budgets.
- Ability to effectively communicate in both English and Spanish.
