Job description

STS Technical Services is hiring a Weld Lead in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is a direct-hire, split shift opportunity supporting a privately held and growing manufacturer of UL heavy gauge steel fuel tanks, trailers, large generator enclosures and modular metal enclosures used to house fully equipped electrical distribution and control equipment.
This role is ideal for an experienced welding professional with shop floor leadership experience, MIG welding and fabrication knowledge, strong blueprint reading skills, and the ability to train, motivate and guide employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Shift Schedule
  • Monday through Thursday
  • 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM Central Time
  • Split shift

Position Summary
The Weld Lead will coordinate the daily activities of MIG welders and fabricators while helping ensure production work is completed safely, accurately, on schedule and to customer specifications. This position requires hands-on welding and fabrication knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to support employees directly on the shop floor.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable assigning work, training team members, troubleshooting issues, reviewing blueprints, checking product quality and stepping in to assist with tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily activities of MIG welders and fabricators
  • Delegate job responsibilities to appropriate employees
  • Train and motivate staff to meet demanding manufacturing requirements and schedules
  • Assist with tasks as necessary to complete assignments
  • Test products and equipment for defects or malfunctions
  • Work in a safe manner and support safe shop floor practices
  • Communicate changes and updates to employees regarding processes and procedures
  • Support production quality, accuracy and schedule performance
  • Help ensure welded and fabricated products meet engineering or sales specifications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve shop floor issues as they arise

Qualifications
  • Certified Welding Inspector certification required
  • Minimum of 4 years of previous experience working on the shop floor in a manufacturing facility
  • Previous MIG welding or fabrication experience required
  • Ability to measure, compare and complete simple or complex shop calculations
  • Ability to ensure products comply with engineering or sales specifications
  • Previous experience working with and reading blueprints required
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve a variety of shop floor situations
  • Previous experience working with steel is a plus
  • Previous experience leading shop floor employees required
  • Ability to motivate employees to complete jobs accurately, on time and to specifications
  • Strong attention to detail required
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
