Job Summary:

The Senior Credit Officer (SCO) reports directly to the Chief Credit Officer and plays a key role in the credit approval process and overall portfolio management for their assigned portfolio(s). This position will be the primary contact for commercial lenders, underwriters, and senior leadership for all new, renewals, and/or modifications of credits within assigned portfolio(s). As such, the SCO will be entrusted to maintain strong asset quality to ensure credits are within Bank's risk appetite, meet Loan Policy and Guideline parameters and are property structured and managed. The SCO will take a leadership role in the development and management of the commercial underwriting teams. This position shall serve as a voting member of the Bank's Senior Loan Committee.

Primary Functions and/or Responsibilities:

  • Works with Commercial Relationship Managers and credit staff to properly structure credit requests that mitigate risk while supporting Smart Growth
  • Identifies and mitigates the Bank’s overall credit risk, which includes, but is not limited to, commercial and digital transmission of funds (ACH, IP, wire, remote deposit and ECL)
  • Independently decisions credit requests within granted individual authority, multi-party authorities and as member of Senior Loan Committee (SLC)
  • Oversees and provides active management of the Bank’s credit underwriting function
  • Develops and implements strategic initiatives that promote optimization and a scalable department
  • Manages and develops staff to ensure consistent credit guidance and loan quality standards
  • Assists CCO in monitoring portfolio performance, identifying emerging risks and recommending risk mitigation strategies
  • Participates in projects as directed by the CCO as a credit subject matter expert
  • Contributes to the development and periodic review of the Bank's Loan Policy and Loan Guidelines
  • Serves as Vice-Chair of Senior Loan Committee
  • Serves as the primary commercial representative on the Enterprise Risk Management Committee (ERMC)
  • Serves as a member of the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) Committee
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field required
  • At least twelve years of experience in commercial credit, including 7+ years with credit approval authority required
  • At least five years of experience in personnel management and supervision required

Specific Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Ability to train, develop and mentor commercial credit staff to analyze, identify and mitigate credit risk
  • Ability to structure credits and make timely credit decisions
  • Strong knowledge of loan documentation
  • Strong knowledge of commercial lending products, such as SWAP's, letters of credit, treasury products. etc.
  • Ability to provide early identification of problem credits and develop action plan strategies
