Job description

JOB DUTIES

A Structural Cabling Technician may be required to perform any of the duties and responsibilities associated with classification NI (Network Installer) in addition to the following:

  • Lays out work and preps materials for installation
  • Performs overhead and underground layout and rough-in
  • Terminates all types of copper cable including coaxial, multi-pair and Category 3 through 6
  • Measures, cuts, bends, assembles, and installs cable tray using measuring devices and hand tools
  • Assembles and installs relay racks, network cabinets, wall fields, and associated components
  • Performs fiber optic cable installation and terminations of all types
  • Performs structured cabling installations in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints
  • Correctly sets up and operates copper and fiber optic testing equipment
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems in structured cabling systems
  • Operates hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks
  • Performs other project-related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor
  • Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience: MUST have 3 or more years of on-the-job communications work experience as well as demonstrated skills at the Network Cabling Technician level
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical and English language skills
    • Understanding of basic communications theory and its application to installations
    • Proficiency in copper and fiber optic cable termination and testing
  • Work Requirements: Must be able to work occasional overtime as required
  • License: Current Driver's License and must have own reliable transportation
  • Education: High School Graduate, GED or equivalent
