Job description

Seeking a Lead Structured Cabling Installer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Melbourne, FL.

This position offers full benefits including PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, fuel reimbursement, and commission opportunities!

Pay: $30 - $40 hourly (based on experience)

The Lead Structured Cabling Installer will perform the installation of copper and fiber optic cabling systems on commercial, government, and industrial projects. This hands-on leadership role requires strong technical expertise, crew supervision experience, client interaction skills, and the ability to assist with project estimating and quoting.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Installation

  • Lead structured cabling crews, ensuring work complies with BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC standards.
  • Install, terminate, test, and certify Cat6, Cat6A, Cat8, and fiber optic cabling systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and construction drawings.
  • Perform OTDR, Fluke/DSX, and fiber certification testing.
  • Install cable pathways, racks, trays, conduit, J-hooks, patch panels, and fiber enclosures.
  • Train and mentor technicians while maintaining a safe and productive job site.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other trades.
  • Maintain project documentation, labeling, as-builts, and material inventories.
  • Identify and communicate field issues, scope changes, and project risks.
Client & Project Support
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
  • Conduct site surveys and provide project updates and technical guidance.
  • Support project estimating by evaluating labor, materials, and project scope.
  • Assist with developing and reviewing quotes to ensure accuracy and profitability.
Required Qualifications
  • BICSI Installer 2 – Copper (required)
  • BICSI Installer 2 – Fiber Optic (required)
  • Actively pursuing or willing to pursue BICSI RCDD certification
  • 7+ years of structured cabling experience, including 5+ years in a lead or supervisory role
  • Expert knowledge of copper and fiber installation, termination, testing, and certification
  • Experience with Fluke DSX, OptiFiber Pro, or similar testing equipment
  • Strong understanding of TIA-568, TIA-569, TIA-606, and NEC standards
  • Experience leading crews of 3–10 technicians
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills
  • Ability to review project scopes, construction documents, and RFPs
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks for government site access
Preferred Qualifications
  • BICSI RCDD certification
  • Experience with government, healthcare, or DoD projects
  • Structured cabling estimating and quoting experience
  • Familiarity with distributor/vendor pricing platforms
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • OSP fiber installation experience
  • Knowledge of DAS systems and low-voltage infrastructure
  • Experience using AutoCAD or Bluebeam
