Job description

Structured Cabling Technician
The Structured Cabling Technician will be responsible for the installation, testing, and documentation of structured cabling systems for Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) installation projects. This role includes running and terminating cables, mounting Client, and ensuring that all installations meet industry standards and project specifications. The technician will report to the Lead Technician.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation of Structured Cabling:
  • Pull, route, and terminate Cat6A cables.
  • Terminate and test cables to ensure optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
Wi-Fi AP Installation:
  • Mount Wi-Fi Access Points based on design plans and client specifications.
  • Connect Client to the network using structured cabling and verify proper functionality.
  • Label, document, and photograph all cabling and equipment for clear identification and future troubleshooting.
Testing and Troubleshooting:
  • Perform cable testing using appropriate tools to ensure signal quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve cabling and connectivity issues.
  • Work with network engineers to optimize AP placement and network coverage.
Compliance and Documentation:
  • Ensure all installations meet industry standards (TIA/EIA) and local regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records, including installation diagrams, test results, and cable management documentation.
Safety and Quality Assurance:
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct quality checks to verify the reliability and performance of installed cabling systems.
Customer Interaction:
  • Communicate with clients on-site, providing updates on installation progress and addressing any concerns.
  • Offer technical support and training to end-users as needed.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in structured cabling are preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in structured cabling and network infrastructure installation.
  • Experience with Wi-Fi AP installation and configuration is highly desirable.
  • Experience in hospital environments is preferred.
Skills:
  • Proficiency in cable termination and testing (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber optic).
  • Knowledge of Wi-Fi network architecture and AP deployment best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and network diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Certifications:
  • ICRA Certification required.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work for extended periods.
Work Environment:
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Travel to multiple job sites within a 50-mile radius.
