Job description

The Berlin Steel Construction Company is a full service specialty contractor, primarily with structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We design, fabricate, and erect structures in the Northeast and in other parts of the country. We have 2 fabrication facilities, 4 erection operations facilities, and 6 office locations that provide engineering and management of projects. We are a 100% employee-owned company (ESOP) with a desire for growth. We service the private commercial, public, institutional, and industrial markets.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Manager to provide overall project management for structural steel and/or miscellaneous metals jobs in our West Chester, PA office. This role is responsible for establishing project objectives, developing management plans, and maintaining liaison with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors. The Project Manager will oversee contractual, technical, and financial matters, while coordinating closely with field and engineering teams to ensure efficient, timely, and profitable project execution.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review, manage, and monitor all aspects of the project's contractual, technical, and financial documents.
  • Direct and coordinate project execution to ensure efficiency, adherence to budgets, and compliance with contract/subcontract requirements.
  • Establish and maintain schedules for approvals, production, subcontractors, and customers, and communicate updates accordingly.
  • Serve as primary liaison with customers regarding schedules, coordination, and project status.
  • Expedite RFIs, detail drawings, and related documentation with support from Engineering Project Managers (EPMs).
  • Coordinate project material needs from shops and vendors, updating schedules and delivery dates as required.
  • Monitor project costs, maintaining or improving target margins.
  • Identify potential scope changes, prepare change order estimates, and negotiate with customers.
  • Provide invoicing information, approve vendor/subcontractor invoices, and support Accounting with collections as needed.
  • Document project activities, correspond with customers, and mitigate risks through timely communication and notices.
  • Prepare cost-to-complete data for monthly accounting reviews.
  • Utilize company software systems to manage projects effectively. (Teams, Bluebeam, etc.)
  • Attend and report at internal and external job meetings, cost reviews, and site visits (some travel required).
  • Ensure all necessary project accessories (drawings, fasteners, etc.) are available and distributed.
  • Schedule and lead coordination meetings, including documenting minutes and distributing checklists.
  • Support field measuring, troubleshooting, survey assistance, and jobsite visits as needed.

Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of construction experience, with at least two (2) years as a Project Manager in steel construction preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • General computer proficiency required, experience with steel construction software preferred. (Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Tekla, etc.)
  • Ability to safely navigate construction work areas (stairs, ladders, uneven surfaces).
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
