Position: Site Safety Coordinator - Steel Construction
Location: Cape Canaveral, FL
Reports To: Safety Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Classification: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
PBI Steel Construction is seeking an experienced Site Safety Coordinator who is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive work environment on structural steel erection projects. This position ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, Florida workplace requirements, and applicable federal employment laws while helping reduce workplace hazards and strengthen the company's safety culture.
The Site Safety Coordinator serves as a safety leader on assigned projects and works closely with the Site Safety Manager, Project Management, Field Supervision, Subcontractors, Clients, and Employees to identify hazards, reduce risk, prevent injuries, and ensure all work is performed safely and efficiently.
Required Certifications
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
  • OSHA 500 - Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction
  • OSHA 510 - Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

Candidates must possess and be able to provide verifiable copies of all required licenses, certifications, and training credentials applicable to the position. Documentation may include, but is not limited to, OSHA certifications, NCCER credentials, First Aid/CPR certifications, CDL licenses, TWIC cards, welding certifications, and other job-related qualifications. Verification of credentials are required prior to employment consideration or offer of employment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and company safety standards.
  • Monitor steel erection activities including fall protection, scaffolding, crane operations, rigging, aerial lifts, and heavy equipment use.
  • Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, orientations, and safety training for employees and subcontractors.
  • Identify workplace hazards and implement corrective actions to prevent incidents and injuries.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and complete required documentation and reporting.
  • Ensure employees and subcontractors properly utilize required PPE and follow safe work practices.
  • Inspect tools, equipment, scaffolding, and work areas before use to verify safe operating conditions.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, and incident logs.
  • Assist with updating and maintaining employee safety training records in BambooHR or other company systems.
  • Accompany OSHA inspectors, clients, and safety representatives during site visits and audits.
  • Work collaboratively with project management, field supervision, HR, clients, and subcontractors to promote safety compliance.
  • Transport employees to approved medical facilities for evaluation, treatment, or drug and alcohol testing when directed by management.
  • Perform additional safety-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience, preferably in structural steel erection or industrial construction.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required; OSHA 500 preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA construction safety standards, fall protection, scaffolding, and heavy equipment safety.
  • Ability to recognize hazards and enforce safe work practices in high-risk environments.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and incident investigation skills.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Work Environment
  • Active commercial and industrial construction job sites.
  • Exposure to heights, outdoor weather conditions, heavy machinery, and physically demanding work environments.
  • Travel to multiple project locations may be required.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be necessary based on project schedules.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in active construction environments.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and structural steel.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
