They must frequently adapt work plans based on weather conditions or last-minute changes to project specifications. Effective communication with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors is vital to avoid delays and maintain high safety standards. Being proactive, flexible, and detail-oriented helps a foreman efficiently overcome these obstacles and keep projects moving forward.

What does a structural steel foreman do?

A Structural Steel Foreman supervises and coordinates steel construction projects, ensuring structural components are fabricated, assembled, and installed according to plans and safety regulations.  This is a hands-on leadership position. The successful candidate will work alongside the crew when needed while taking ownership of shop organization, workflow, productivity, quality, safety, and planning. We are looking for someone who naturally thinks ahead, understands what needs to happen next, and keeps multiple fabrication packages moving efficiently.

Responsibilities
·       Lead and coordinate daily shop production.
·       Plan work in advance and communicate priorities to the crew.

·       Track fabrication progress and communicate status to management.
·       Coordinate with Operations, Project Management, Purchasing, and Quality Control.
·       Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient fabrication shop.
·       Ensure parts are identified, labeled, staged, and ready for delivery.
·       Monitor workmanship and company quality standards.
·       Train and mentor welders, fitters, and apprentices.
·       Enforce safe work practices and end-of-day shutdown procedures.
·       Identify improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions.
·       Take ownership of issues and always close the loop.

Qualifications
·       8+ years of structural steel or miscellaneous metals fabrication is a must.
·       Previous foreman, supervisor, or shop leadership experience is a must.

·       Strong communication with shop and office personnel.
·       AWS certifications are a plus.
·       Dependable, accountable, and safety-minded.

What We're Looking For
We want someone who walks into the shop each morning and asks:

 • What are we building today?
 • What needs to be ready tomorrow?
 • What is coming next week?
 • What could stop us, and what do we need to do about it now?

We're looking for a leader who takes ownership, develops people, communicates clearly, and continuously improves the shop.
