Job description

MHP Structural Engineers is seeking a Structural Project Engineer level 1 - 3 with strong healthcare project experience (HCAI and other jurisdictions) to join our Long Beach office. This role is designed for a licensed California P.E. who is actively working towards their S.E. license and stepping into a future Project Management role within the firm.


At MHP, we focus on delivering structural solutions that support essential healthcare campuses, K-12 schools, higher education buildings, and critical infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful, complex projects from early design through construction administration, while also helping mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continued growth of our healthcare and education practice.


What You'll Do

  • Lead and support structural engineering design for healthcare, including:
  • SPC 4d, NPC 4d and NPC 5 Design Projects
  • Healthcare tenant improvements and central plant upgrades
  • Healthcare Non-structural component anchorage.
  • Design of Ground Up Healthcare Facilities
  • Manage projects from conceptual design through construction administration
  • Prepare and review calculations, drawings, and technical specifications
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Support proposal development and client-facing project discussions
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development
  • QC of junior engineers calculations and drawings.
  • Work toward progression into a Project Manager role

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis), or Structural Engineering
  • California P.E. license required; active pursuit of California S.E. licensure is strongly encouraged
  • 6+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Strong experience with healthcare (HCAI) projects required
  • Proficiency in structural design of steel, concrete, masonry, and timber systems
  • Strong understanding of CBC (including A-chapters) and ASCE 7-22
  • Interest in pursuing California S.E. licensure mandatory
  • Strong communication skills and desire to take on leadership responsibility
