Position Overviewย 

Aย Senior Engineering Geologistย withinย Phasor Engineeringย is involved in a variety of geo-structural engineering projects with a focus on foundation engineering and an emphasis on design-build delivery methods for large-scale energy generation and transmission-related projects. Collaborating with an in-house, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction team - including civil, structural, geotechnical,ย GIS,ย construction management, and construction experts -ย theย Senior Engineering Geologistย plays a crucial role in providing geo-structural design solutions on large scale projects; responsibilities includeย overseeingย andย supporting design production, development of construction drawings and specifications,ย engineering support during construction, and interacting with key project stakeholders as a leader within the geo-structural engineering team.ย 

This role is an office-based position with a primary focus on executing pre-construction geotechnical investigations,ย geologic hazard assessments,ย geotechnical engineering calculations and modeling, and design document development to support foundation,ย retainingย wall, and/or general civil construction. Theย Senior Engineering Geologistย willย be expected to apply standard and advanced engineering principles to solve complex problems. A successful candidateย is able toย utilizeย soundย geotechnicalย engineering judgment, and digital technologies to develop economical solutions and communicate effectively with project management, technical, construction, and companyย personnelย as well as company leadership.ย 

Key Responsibilitiesย 

  • Supportย a team ofย engineering geologists, geotechnicalย engineers,ย and staff, working onย various typesย of civil engineering structures, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.ย 
  • Execute assignmentsย requiringย applicationย of standard andย advancedย engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out geo-structural engineering tasks.ย ย 
  • Interface closely with other project-level and senior leadership personnel within the company, including geotechnical, geological, structural, transmission line, substation, and civil engineering, GIS, and construction management team members.ย 
  • Participate in oversight and managementย ofย field subcontractor activities, such as geotechnical drilling and testing and/or forensics studies.ย ย 
  • Develop written reports and/or provide verbal communication of information in a professional andย appropriate manner.ย ย 
  • Develop and manage project budgets,ย monitorย expenses, and ensure cost-effective solutions.ย ย 
  • Take responsible charge of geologicย hazard modeling for geotechnical design,ย including seismic/fault characterizationย and flood/scour modeling.ย 
  • Implement and oversee quality control procedures to ensure the highest standards of workmanship and materials.ย ย 
  • Work under supervision ofย Engineeringย Directorย or Engineering Managerย in a professional office setting.ย ย 

Educational Requirementsย 

  • Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Geologic Scienceย or related field.ย 
  • Registeredย Professionalย Geoscientist (P.Geo).ย 
  • Minimumย ten (10)ย years' experienceย in the geotechnical, transmission, or substation engineering field.ย 

Preferred Qualificationsย 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.ย ย 
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small orย medium sizeย office setting.ย 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.ย 
  • Familiarity with use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and associated software for collection and analysis of large geological and geotechnical data sets.ย 
  • Familiarity with engineering analyses forย soil and rock slope stability andย design of deep foundations andย retainingย structures utilizingย modern computer softwareย (SLIDE, DIPS,ย Rocslope,ย LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT,ย etc.)ย is preferred.ย 
  • Experience with construction-phase geotechnical services, including quality control observation, contractor coordination, andย execution of civilย specificationsย is preferred.ย 

Physical Requirementsย 

  • Must be able to lift 40ย lbsย at times.ย 
  • Must be able to bend, lift, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces.ย 

Travel Requirementsย 

  • Varies based on seasonal and project requirements:ย estimated asย 10% toย 25% of the work year.ย
