Job description

Job Description:

The Mechanical Designer I is responsible for supporting the design and development of HVAC equipment through the creation of models, drawings, and assemblies using computer-aided design (CAD) tools. This role contributes to organizational objectives by assisting with product development, maintaining design documentation, and ensuring accuracy in technical specifications. The position works under guidance to complete design updates, support engineering teams, and contribute to product improvements. This role plays a key part in developing foundational technical skills while supporting manufacturing and engineering operations.

Primary Duties:

  • Develop and modify models, assemblies, and technical drawings using CAD software.
  • Assist in creation of conceptual and preliminary designs to support product development.
  • Perform updates and revisions to existing designs based on engineering input.
  • Complete assigned design tasks and projects based on engineering direction and requirements.
  • Maintain and track design-related work associated with internal processes and orders.
  • Collaborate with engineers, management, and cross-functional teams to support design solutions.
  • Generate and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing and production.
  • Ensure drawings and models meet company standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by participating in training, development opportunities, and industry learning.
  • Support engineering teams with documentation, design changes, and product updates.
  • Assist with prototype development and testing support activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to design processes.
  • Travel as needed to support design validation or operational needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires an Associate degree or technical degree in drafting, design, mechanical technology, or a related field;
  • 1-2 years of experience in design, drafting, or a related field,
  • Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Experience in HVAC or a manufacturing environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical design and drafting principles.
  • Proficiency in both 2D and 3D CAD software and design tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings.
  • Ability to follow engineering standards and design guidelines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal and structural steel materials and their properties.
