Job Summary:

Nightwing is seeking a highly motivated and experienced civil engineer with a structural focus to join our team based in Springfield, VA area. Civil engineering at Nightwing requires the application of building engineering and construction experience to support our customer's challenging missions. Our team drives innovations for missions with national security benefits. You will help develop detailed solutions through research, collaboration, testing, and guiding design decisions with modeling and calculations. You will review designs and calculations by others to ensure compliance with applicable codes and practice standards in addition to performing analyses. This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative experienced engineer to join a highly talented muti-disciplinary team.

Job Duties:

As a civil engineer at Nightwing, you will join a multidisciplinary team engaged in research and development and mission support. This role centers on performing structural analyses and generating detailed designs, collaborating closely with mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering professionals to produce effective solutions. Analyses and designs cover a range of materials, including steel, concrete, wood, and composites. Your duties will include writing test plans, coordinating and executing testing, and analyzing results. You will be expected to apply experience with a variety of design codes, common construction practices, and materials ranging from steel to soil. In this role, you will support project managers and team leaders in coordinating internal and external resources and fostering customer relationships through effective communication. Conveying technical solutions to customers and field teams is an essential aspect of this role. We empower our engineers to take ownership of their projects, encourage innovative thinking, cultivate an environment that rewards initiative, and value the drive to find solutions. You will foster innovation by researching and proposing enhancements to components and processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have or be eligible and willing to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph. Clearance sponsorship is provided and candidates may begin work on unclassified projects during the clearance process
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related discipline from an EAC/ABET-accredited program.
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and able to gain registration as a professional engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE)
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant engineering experience, or a minimum of six (6) years with a master's degree in civil engineering with a structural focus
  • Strong background in structural analysis, design codes, materials testing, and construction practices.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Autodesk & SolidWorks platforms preferred.
  • Experience with common structural design and analysis software such as RAM, Risa, Tekla SkyCiv and IDEA StatiCA.
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience applying geotechnical engineering principles and interpreting soil mechanics test results.
  • Design experience with reinforced concrete and steel.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing often widely different project tasks and types.
  • Independently seek opportunities to improve existing processes and contribute to project efficiency.
  • Review documents and calculations prepared by others; mentor other engineers in best design and construction practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in identifying and resolving complex engineering challenges, with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
  • Ability to deliver timely solutions for tight project deadlines.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks as required for benchtop and representative environment evaluations. Tasks may include lifting 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel to temporary assignments outside of the greater Washington DC Metropolitan area. Expected travel is less than 10%.

Salary & Benefits

The salary associated with this position ($99,000-$206,000) is commensurate with the selected candidate's qualifications, years of relevant experience, and demonstrated level of expertise. Compensation will be determined based on these factors to ensure alignment with skills, responsibilities, and market standards.
