Position Description
Anticipated Start Date: August 24, 2026 (pending budget approval for 2026-2027 fiscal year)
Position Summary:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Manhattan University seeks applicants for a Visiting Professor faculty position beginning Fall 2026. We seek candidates with expertise in Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Structural Engineering. Applicants in other areas of civil engineering with exceptional qualifications may also be considered. This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Successful Candidates will:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate (M.S) courses in civil and/or environmental engineering.
  • Develop and maintain course materials, including syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, and examinations.
  • Hold regular office hours to provide academic support and mentorship to students
  • Advise undergraduate students on course planning, academic progress, and career pathways.
  • Participate in departmental and University service, including curriculum development, student outreach, and community engagement.
  • Teach a standard load of 24 credits per academic year.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
  • Candidates with a master's degree and relevant work experience can also be considered for a visiting lecturer position.
  • Evidence of effective teaching or potential for effective excellence.
  • Demonstrated expertise in specialty areas within Environmental, Transportation, or Structural Engineering.
  • Ability to teach core undergraduate civil and/or environmental engineering courses and upper-level undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) courses in the candidate's area of specialization.
  • Professional engineering licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure is desirable.

Research Facilities:
Environmental Engineering
Candidates with expertise within all areas of Environmental Engineering are encouraged to apply, especially those with a background in environmental process engineering, water quality assessment, and/or environmental modeling. Opportunities to work with program faculty and students on research are available within our newly renovated Environmental Engineering Research Laboratories.
Transportation Engineering
Candidates with expertise within all areas of Transportation Engineering are encouraged to apply, especially those with a background in pavements, traffic operations, urban transportation planning, safety and ITS, multimodal systems, or AI/ML applications to transportation data analysis. Opportunities to work with program faculty and students on research are available within our Pavement Material Lab and Computing Labs. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of the new Transportation and Mobility Lab.
Structural Engineering
Candidates with expertise within all areas of Structural Engineering are encouraged to apply. Opportunities to work with program faculty and students on research are available within our Solids and Materials Labs. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of the new Structural Engineering Lab.
