About the Role

As a Senior Structural Engineer at Z Modular, you will play a key role in leading the design and analysis of modular steel buildings that support the future of modern construction. This position requires deep expertise in structural engineering, steel design, and code compliance, while offering the opportunity to directly influence design standards, project execution, and engineering excellence across the organization.

You will collaborate with engineers, design teams, project stakeholders, and site personnel to ensure structural solutions are accurate, efficient, and aligned with project objectives. This is an on-site role located in Austin, TX, Killeen, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Troy, MI

What You'll Do

  • Performs structural analysis and design of steel modular structures and connections, ensuring structural integrity and design accuracy.
  • Develops and maintains design spreadsheets and engineering documentation to improve consistency and operational efficiency.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable building codes, regulations, and industry standards through thorough review and analysis.
  • Prepares and reviews structural plans, calculations, details, and technical documentation to support project execution.
  • Collaborates with design teams, plants and site teams, project stakeholders, and site personnel to ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Leads and promotes safe work practices in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentors and reviews the work of junior engineers, providing technical guidance and support for professional development.
  • Oversees and approves structural calculations, drawings, and reports to maintain quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Manages multiple engineering projects simultaneously, prioritizing responsibilities to meet deadlines and project goals.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating new technologies, design methodologies, and sustainable engineering practices.

Who You Are

  • 15+ years of experience in structural design and analysis, preferably focused on steel structures and building systems, and experience designing building in high seismic zones.
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, and or related field with a structural emphasis.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to obtain licensure in additional jurisdictions as needed.
  • Technical Skills - Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD along with structural analysis software such as RISA-3D, ETABS, SAP2000, or similar programs.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, industry standards, structural engineering principles, and steel connection design.
  • Soft Skills - Excellent problem-solving, communication, collaboration, leadership, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, manage complex projects, and work effectively in both independent and team-based environments.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
