What are Structural Engineer Python jobs?

Structural Engineer Python jobs are roles where professionals apply their knowledge of structural engineering along with programming skills in Python to solve engineering problems. These positions often involve tasks such as automating calculations, analyzing structural data, developing custom software tools, and optimizing design processes. By using Python, structural engineers can improve efficiency, perform complex simulations, and handle large datasets more effectively. This blend of engineering and programming is increasingly valuable in modern engineering firms as technology becomes integral to the design and analysis process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Structural Engineer with Python expertise, and why are they important?

To excel as a Structural Engineer with Python expertise, you need a strong background in civil or structural engineering principles, combined with proficiency in Python programming and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with structural analysis software (such as SAP2000 or ETABS), CAD tools, and Python libraries like NumPy and Pandas is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help you collaborate with teams and address complex design challenges. These competencies enable efficient and accurate design processes, automation of calculations, and innovative solutions in structural projects.

What is the difference between Structural Engineer Python vs Civil Engineer?

AspectStructural Engineer PythonCivil Engineer
Required CredentialsEngineering degree, PE license, Python programming skillsEngineering degree, PE license, broader civil engineering skills
Work EnvironmentDesign firms, construction sites, software development teamsConstruction sites, urban planning, infrastructure projects
Industry UsageStructural analysis, automation, data modeling with PythonDesign, construction, transportation, and infrastructure projects

Structural Engineer Python combines traditional structural engineering expertise with Python programming skills for automation and data analysis. Civil Engineers focus on broader infrastructure projects. The roles overlap in design and analysis but differ in technical focus and tools used.

How does a Structural Engineer specializing in Python typically collaborate with other engineering disciplines on large-scale projects?

Structural Engineers with Python expertise often play a pivotal role in multidisciplinary teams, especially when automating calculations, data analysis, or developing custom engineering tools. They frequently work alongside civil, mechanical, and architectural engineers to streamline workflows and ensure accurate modeling of structures. Collaboration involves sharing Python scripts or tools, integrating data from various sources, and refining models based on feedback from other specialists. This close teamwork not only improves project efficiency but also enhances the accuracy and reliability of structural designs.

SLC works on behalf of clients to support utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage, thermal power, and other power and infrastructure projects. We evaluate and optimize technical, commercial, environmental, social responsibility, and financial aspects of the projects for a variety of clients.
This position will require you to perform structural engineering reviews and analyses in order to understand power projects and distill technical expertise into actionable information that project stakeholders rely on to prudently develop, design, construct, operate, and finance renewable energy projects being built in the United States and overseas. You will work with multi-discipline project teams to provide a variety of services, such as the following:
  • Perform structural engineering reviews
  • Prepare structural design specifications
  • Advise power project developers to support new utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage, thermal, and other projects;
  • Evaluate new power and infrastructure projects independently to support financing
  • Develop technical reports for applicable audiences - including owners, developers, governmental agencies and committees, and financiers

Qualifications
We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.
Essential skills and experience:
  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering with a structural specialty. A Master's degree in civil/structural engineering or business (e.g., MBA) discipline is a plus.
  • 5+ years of detailed structural design, including mass concrete, steel, piles, deep foundations, lattice structures, etc.,
  • 3+ years of experience working in detailed structural design specific to power generation or distribution (thermal, renewable, substations, etc.)
  • Experience in writing and providing support documentation for Structural Engineering specifications, calculations, and whitepapers or feasibility studies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical evaluation report writing

Valued but not required skills and experience:
