Job description

Position Overview

Our client is global engineering consulting firm seeking a Senior Civil Structural Engineer to join their Calgary office, supporting a diverse portfolio of heavy industrial projects across Canada and the US.

This position will focus on the structural design and analysis of heavy industrial facilities, including structural steel and reinforced concrete foundations, while coordinating closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout all phases of project execution. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across oil & gas, mining, utilities, water treatment, and other industrial sectors, with increasing responsibility for project coordination, client interaction, and technical leadership.


Further Responsibilities Include the Following

  • Perform structural steel and reinforced concrete design and analysis for heavy industrial facilities.
  • Complete engineering calculations in accordance with applicable codes and industry standards.
  • Coordinate structural designs with mechanical, electrical, process, piping, civil, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare structural layouts, engineering sketches, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Review drawings, shop drawings, and respond to RFIs during construction.
  • Provide engineering support throughout detailed design and construction.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate project deliverables and support project execution from conceptual design through detailed engineering.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers as required.
  • Support project management activities on smaller projects.


Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Approximately 6-10+ years of structural engineering experience within an EPC or engineering consulting environment.
  • Experience designing structural steel and reinforced concrete foundations for heavy industrial facilities.
  • Experience working on projects within oil & gas, mining, utilities, water treatment, or other industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian structural design codes and engineering standards.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and client-facing skills.
  • Previous project management or mentoring experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as S-Frame or similar is considered an asset.
