Your Opportunity
Stantec has an immediate need for talented, team focused Senior Structural Engineers with 10 or more years of design experience looking to challenge themselves on a professional level on a variety of transportation projects. You will have the opportunity to learn, work on exciting and multi-faceted projects, and grow your career. We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to excel in working in a team environment and have a passion for the work that they do. The successful candidate will join a growing team of transportation professionals and contribute to the design component of roadway and bridge projects throughout Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Additionally, they will assist with bridge inspection by performing inspections along with writing and reviewing inspection reports. The ultimate goal is to find a well-rounded senior structural engineer experienced in design who will technical aspects of a project while assisting the project manager achieve the client's project goals.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • The majority of work will include bridge design and inspection projects for departments of transportation and municipalities in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
  • Key design duties include leading the preparation of design calculations, plans, CAD drafting, and construction cost estimate development while assisting the project manager to develop special provisions and specifications for DOT and Municipal clients.
  • During construction, tasks will include the review of Contractor submittals and preparation of responses to requests for information.
  • Responsibilities would include the evaluation of existing structures and development of load ratings.
  • Position also entails preparing engineering reports and technical studies such as pre-TS&L and TS&L reports for bridge replacement projects. Work could also include develop pre-scoping reports to help clients determine whether a bridge should be rehabilitated or replaced.
  • Performs inspection of simple and complex bridges along with preparing the inspection reports.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought, and effectively communicate ideas.
  • PE is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is required.
  • Experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and VDOT design criteria and requirements is preferred.
  • Experience with MicroStation is required and understanding of MDOT SHA, VDOT, and DDOT workspaces and CAD standards if preferred.
  • Bridge load rating experience preferred.
  • Understanding of national and state bridge inspection methods, evaluations, and report preparation is preferred.
  • Successful completion of FHWA/NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training course is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to travel within the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia area.
  • Ability to climb ladders, and work at heights using various bridge inspection access equipment.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor s Degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis. Master's degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 or more years of bridge design experience.
  • Inspection experience including large complex bridges and bridges with fracture critical members is preferred, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

Pay Range:
• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas-$117,800.00 - $176,800.00 Annually
• Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas-$126,400.00 - $189,600.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
