Structural Engineer
Skills and Experience:
Our EPC client is growing both their Birmingham, AL and Greenville, SC offices. They are looking for highly qualified Structural Engineers with over 10 years of diversified experience who can perform engineering and design on heavy industrial projects.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program
  • PE and/or SE registration is a STRONG nice to have
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in structural engineering
  • Experience in pulp and paper industry preferred
  • Knowledgeable in the application of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.)
  • Expertise with structural analysis software (e.g. STAAD, Tekla, etc.), including operating and interpreting results
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD and Revit)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience with rotating and vibration analysis
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience leading structural project teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience mentoring other structural engineers

Essential Job Duties:
Responsible for leading structural project teams and performing all aspects of design of structural engineering assignments, working with multidiscipline project teams throughout the design and construction process to adapt structural plans as needed to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. This work will be performed under general supervision.
Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Utilize department design and drafting standards
  • Understand the assigned project scope, specifications, schedules and design criteria
  • Manage project budget and schedule
  • Coordinate project staffing needs with department
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest, most efficient solution
  • Produce preliminary designs and material take-offs for estimates
  • Produce organized detail design calculations for checking by others and as a deliverable when required
  • Produce efficient and cost-effective designs that meet the expectations and needs of the client
  • Check calculations and documents produced by others to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practice
  • Provide information to and assist designers as needed for the completion of engineering drawings
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure the flow of information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project
  • Advise the project team of design or scope changes
  • Assist in developing scopes, drawings and specifications into bid packages
  • Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for structural input
  • Develop construction specifications
  • Review fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Develop engineering estimates and scope for proposals
  • Perform fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie-ins and provide construction support
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineering personnel
