Job description

Strittmatter Companies is a well-established site development, excavation, and utility contractor serving the entire Metropolitan D.C. area. We are currently seeking an experienced Wet Utilities Pipelayers to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of hands-on experience installing underground wet utility systems, including water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage pipe.

Responsibilities

  • Install wet utility pipe systems, including water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage.
  • Assist with laying, aligning, connecting, and sealing pipe according to project plans and specifications.
  • Set and install structures such as manholes, catch basins, inlets, valves, and related utility components.
  • Grade and prepare trenches for proper pipe installation and slope.
  • Work safely in and around trenches, excavations, heavy equipment, and active construction sites.
  • Read and follow construction plans, grade stakes, and supervisor direction.
  • Assist equipment operators, foremen, and crew members as needed to keep projects moving efficiently.
  • Inspect materials, tools, and equipment before use and report damaged or unsafe items.
  • Follow all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety procedures, including trench safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at the end of each shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of wet utility pipe installation experience.
  • Experience installing water, sewer, and storm drainage systems required.
  • Knowledge of pipe grades, trench safety, bedding, backfill, and proper installation techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, grade stakes, and layout instructions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with crew members, equipment operators, and supervisors.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding work.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
